One way Clutches are attached to and allow specific planetary gear sets to only rotate in one direction. Also called Sprags, Roller Clutches and Spring and Roller kits
By preventing specific planetary gear sets to only rotate in one direction it allows the transmission to achieve different gear ratios (shift to and from 1st, 2nd 3rd, Reverse, etc.)
One way Clutches are held in place my springs and rollers (also called elements) and wear over time and should be replaced when rebuilding a transmission to maintain proper shift quality
