2nd time to change this bearing

i read the previous review - doesn't really make sense to me about checking the bearing seal - the hub has a sealed bearing, and there are no separate seals or covers listed for either the hub or the half shaft. As for the engine mounts allowing the weight of the engine to push on the bearing - that would require that the inner CV plunge joint would bottom out - but that doesn't even happen when the suspension bottoms out. Didn't make sense to me that a motor mount problem could cause the wheel bearing to fail. Given that Autozone has lifetime warranty on so many Duralast parts, but this one is just 1yr; makes it look like the part is a bit sketchy on reliability.

Pros: nice looking finish on the part

      Cons: doesn't last

Knowing what causes the failure is the key

I have owned several dodge caravans. the usual cause of failure in this unit is one of 3 things or a combination, bad inner weather seal, bad cv assembly or bad motor mounts. Don't believe the other review here. If you replace the bearing and do not fix the problem that caused it to go bad yes they will fail repeatedly. somtimes in less than a few months however-- i have 2 different vans with this bearing assembly in it, one of which is going on 5 years since its replacement. the other is around 2 years. one had a bad cv joint, the other had a bad drivers side motor mount. as the motor mounts fail the weight of the engine and transmission will push outward against the bearing. with caravans the engine placement and alignment is critical to how long steering components last. Ball joints and struts will contribute to this problem. i have used many of these units on my 3 caravans and never had a problem with any of them as long as you find what caused the problem and get an alignment-including engine positioning after the repair. I do recommend this product

      Pros: Good price and warranty

Cons: pain in the butt to change - nothing new there

      Terrible

1 of 3 people found this helpful

They lasted about 9 months, I didn't get over to AutoZone until 2 days after the warranty expired, out of luck! Would never buy these cheap things again! Very disappointed in the parts and AutoZone customer service in handling this one.

      Pros: None

Cons: They only lasted about 9 months
