      Worst

Worked all afternoon changing my water pump, so I thought why not change the thermostat. My usual practice is to fill back up let run, and then add more coolant. Temp got about 215 degrees, and I shut down and filled up. Temp then after running is about 150F. What? Then I look on the box, it stays open after some temperature. Now I have to replace this less than 5 hour old part again. I won't buy this ever again. I didn't even pay attention to the part, never had an issue with something as simple as a thermostat. Why try to solve a non-existant problem. This just creates problems.

      Pros: None

Cons: Stays open if gets just a tad over temperature, say on installation

Might as well just remove thermostat altogether

I agree with Member 983059622's review. However, this is the third Failsafe thermostat that I have used in my 91 Silverado in the last YEAR. I switched to the alternate 160* 'stat after the first 2 OE recommended Failsafe 'stats stuck closed on me on a long 340 drive and almost seized my engine. When I reached my destination, I purchased another 'stat from a local Autozone and on my way back home, the exact same thing happened. Now, after switching to a lower temp, the thing doesn't ever seem to close! I left my office yesterday after letting my truck warm up for a good 20 minutes (it was in the teens outside) and when I got in to leave, it hadn't even registered the minimum 160* mark yet! I gave the first 2 the benefit of the doubt, but after the third blunder, I'm never buying any Failsafe products again.

Pros: It helps when you have some extra money you need to waste

Cons: never allows engine to heat up

      Not so hot!

I installed this as part of an overhaul to a 14 year old, 100,000 mile Jeep.
Before this unit, the Jeep always came up to optimal heat and did so quickly, but not with this Failsafe unit.
After 10 miles and 25 minutes, it still won't reach the 160 degree mark, and there's no way it will defrost quickly come even colder weather.
Perhaps it's defective, but I wouldn't chance it next time, no more "Failsafe" for me.

      Pros: ? It's a thermostat

Cons: Doesn't reach heat range at all
