    2007 Jeep Compass

    These engines contain two thermostats. The primary thermostat is located on the front of the water plenum in the thermostat housing. The secondary thermostat is located in the cylinder head under the water plenum.

    Primary Thermostat



    Specific to:

    Jeep Compass 2007-2009

    Jeep Patriot 2007-2009

    1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
    2.  
    3. Drain the cooling system.
    4.  
    5. Remove the air intake assembly.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the coolant hose from the thermostat housing.
    8.  
    9. Remove the housing mounting bolts.
    10.  
    11. Remove the thermostat assembly and clean the sealing surfaces.

    To install:

    1. Position the thermostat into the water plenum. Align the air bleed hole with the location notch on the thermostat housing.
    2.  
    3. Install the thermostat housing onto the coolant adapter and tighten the bolts to 79 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Connect the coolant hose.
    6.  
    7. Install the air intake assembly.
    8.  
    9. Refill the cooling system to the correct level.

    Secondary Thermostat



    Specific to:

    Jeep Compass 2007-2009

    Jeep Patriot 2007-2009

    1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
    2.  
    3. Drain the cooling system.
    4.  
    5. Remove the air intake assembly.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the coolant hoses from the rear of the coolant adapter.
    8.  
    9. Remove the radiator hoses.
    10.  
    11. Remove the coolant adapter mounting bolts.
    12.  
    13. Carefully slide the coolant adapter off the water pump inlet tube to remove the coolant adapter and secondary thermostat.

    To install:

    1. Position the thermostat into the cylinder head.
    2.  
    3. Inspect the water pump inlet tube O-rings for damage before installing the tube in the coolant adapter. Replace O-ring, as necessary.
    4.  
    5. Lubricate the O-rings with soapy water.
    6.  
    7. Position the coolant adapter on water pump inlet tube and cylinder head.
    8.  
    9. Install the coolant adapter mounting bolts and tighten to 159 inch lbs. (18 Nm).
    10.  
    11. Connect the front coolant hose.
    12.  
    13. Connect the two rear coolant hoses.
    14.  
    15. Connect the radiator hose.
    16.  
    17. Install the air intake assembly.
    18.  
    19. Refill the cooling system to the correct level.
