    1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
    2.  
    3. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe.
    4.  
    5. Rotate the tensioner counterclockwise and remove the belt from the power steering pump pulley.
      WARNING
      Replacement of the power steering pump pulley is necessary after being removed and installed two times.

    6.  
    7. Using the special tool, remove the power steering pump pulley.

    9. Inspect the pulley for paint marks in the web area near the hub. If there are two paint marks, discard the pulley. If there is no paint mark or one paint mark, use a paint pencil to mark the web area of the pulley near the hub.

    11. Loosen the clamp and remove the hose.
    12.  
    13. Disconnect the pressure line. Remove and discard the seal.
    14.  
    15. Remove the bolts and the bracket.
    16.  
    17. Remove the bolt and the power steering pump.
    18.  
    19. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Rotate the tensioner clockwise, and install the belt to the power steering pump pulley. Observe the following torques:

      Mounting bolts: 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm)
       
      Pressure line: 48 ft. lbs. (65 Nm)

    21. Using the special tool, install a new seal on the pressure line.

    23. Fill and leak test the system.

    3.0L Engine



    1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
    2.  
    3. Rotate the tensioner, and remove the belt from the power steering pump pulley.
      WARNING
      Replacement of the power steering pump pulley is necessary after being removed and installed two times.

    5. Using the special tool, remove the power steering pump pulley.
    6.  
    7. Inspect the pulley for paint marks in the web area near the hub. If there are two paint marks, discard the pulley. If there is no paint mark or one paint mark, use a paint pencil to mark the web area of the pulley near the hub.
    8.  
    9. Remove the pump pulley.
    10.  
    11. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose. Remove and discard the seal.
    12.  
    13. Disconnect the power steering return hose.
    14.  
    15. Disconnect the power steering return line hose.
    16.  
    17. Remove the bolts and the power steering pump.

    19. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Using the special tool, install the power steering pump pulley. Torque the mounting bolts and pressure line to 35 ft. lbs. (48 Nm).

    21. Using the special tool, install a new seal on the power steering pressure hose.

    23. Fill and leak test the system.

    4.0L (VIN E) SOHC Engine



    1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
    2.  
    3. Remove the engine cooling fan.
    4.  
    5. Loosen the power steering pump pulley bolts.
    6.  
    7. Rotate the tensioner counterclockwise and remove the belt from the power steering pump pulley.
    8.  
    9. Remove the bolts. Remove the power steering pump pulley.
    10.  
    11. Disconnect the power steering return line hose at the power steering fluid reservoir. Allow the system to drain.
    12.  
    13. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose from the power steering pump.
    14.  
    15. Compress and move the power steering fluid reservoir outlet hose clamp.
    16.  
    17. Disconnect the power steering fluid reservoir outlet hose from the power steering pump.
    18.  
    19. Remove the bolts. Remove the power steering pump.

    To install:

    1. Position the power steering pump.
    2.  
    3. Install the bolts. Torque to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Connect the power steering fluid reservoir outlet hose to the power steering pump.
    6.  
    7. Connect the power steering fluid reservoir outlet hose to the power steering pump.
    8.  
    9. Compress and move the power steering fluid reservoir outlet hose clamp into place.
    10.  
    11. Using the special tool, install a new seal on the power steering pressure hose.
    12.  
    13. Connect the power steering pressure hose to the power steering pump. Torque to 48 ft. lbs. (65 Nm).
    14.  
    15. Connect the power steering return line hose to the power steering fluid reservoir.
    16.  
    17. Position the power steering pump pulley.
    18.  
    19. Install the bolts.
    20.  
    21. Install the drive belt.
    22.  
    23. Tighten the power steering pump pulley bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
    24.  
    25. Install the engine cooling fan.
    26.  
    27. Fill and leak check the system.
