REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

The following special tools, or their equivalents, are necessary for this procedure: J-22717, J-24435-7, J-24435-3, J-24435-2, J-24435-6, J-24435-4.
- Remove the lower control arm as explained earlier in this Section.
- Remove the pivot shaft nuts and washers.
- Place the control arm in a press and press on the front end of the pivot shaft to remove the rear bushing.
- Remove the pivot shaft.
- Remove the front bushing stakes with tool J-22717, or equivalent.
- Assemble tool J-24435-7. J-24435-3, J-24435-2 and J-24435-6 on the control arm. Tighten the tool until the bushing is forced out.
- Position the new front bushing in the arm and assemble tools J-24435-6, J-24435-4 and J-24435-7. Force the bushing into place until it is fully seated. The outer tube hole must be lined up so that it faces the front, towards the staked bushing.
- Stake the bushing in at least 2 places.
- Install the pivot shaft.
- Install the rear bushing.
- Install the washers and pivot shaft nuts. Tighten the nuts to 70 ft. lbs. (94 Nm).
- Install the lower control arm.
- Remove the lower control arm.
- Remove the grease fittings and unscrew the bushings.
- Slide out the pivot shaft.
- Discard the old seals.
- Install new seals on the pivot shaft.
- Slide the shaft into the arm.
- Start the bushings into the arm and center the shaft in the bushings. Hand tighten the bushings to make sure the shaft doesn't bind.
- Tighten the bushings to 280 ft. lbs. (380 Nm).
- Check the pivot shaft for free rotation.
- Install the grease fittings and lubricate the bushings.
- Install the lower arm.
