    REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



    Accord
    1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
    2.  
    3. Remove the rear wheels.
    4.  
    5. Support the knuckle and lower control arm with a floor jack to compress the strut.
    6.  
    7. Remove the castle nut cap, cotter pin, and castle nut from the upper ball joint. Use a ball joint separator tool to separate the ball joint from the knuckle.
    8.  
    9. Unbolt and remove the upper control arm.
    10.  
    11. Check upper control arm and bushing for signs of wear and damage. Replace the upper control arm if the ball joint is faulty.
    12.  

    To install:

    Use new self-locking nuts when assembling the suspension components.

    1. Install the upper arm into the vehicle. Install the mounting bolts and only hand-tighten them. Reconnect the upper arm to the knuckle.
    2.  
    3. Tighten the castle nut at the ball joint to 32 ft. lbs. (44 Nm). Tighten the castle nut only enough to install a new cotter pin. Install the castle nut cap.
    4.  
    5. Install the rear wheels and lower the vehicle.
    6.  
    7. Tighten the upper mounting bolts to 28 ft. lbs. (39 Nm).
    8.  
    9. Tighten the wheel nuts to 80 ft. lbs. (108 Nm).
    10.  
    11. Check and adjust the vehicle's rear wheel alignment.
    12.  

    Prelude
    1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
    2.  
    3. Remove the rear wheels. Support the knuckle and lower control arm assembly with a jack.
    4.  
    5. Separate the upper ball joint from the knuckle using a ball joint separator tool.
    6.  
    7. Pull back the trunk side trim and remove the two strut mounting nuts.
    8.  
    9. Remove the self-locking nuts from the upper arm anchor bolts. Remove the upper arm from the vehicle.
    10.  

    Do not disassemble the upper arm. If the ball joint or bushings are faulty, or the upper arm is damaged, the entire upper arm must be replaced.

    To install:

    Use new self-locking nuts when installing the upper arm and strut.

    1. Install the upper control arm assembly into the strut tower.
    2.  
    3. Connect the upper ball joint.
    4.  
    5. Install the rear wheels and lower the vehicle.
    6.  
    7. With all four of the vehicle's wheels on the ground, torque the upper control arm nuts to 47 ft. lbs. (65 Nm). Torque the castle nut to 32 ft. lbs. (44 Nm); then, only tighten it only enough to install a new cotter pin.
    8.  
    9. Tighten the wheel nuts to 80 ft. lbs. (108 Nm).
    10.  
    11. Put the trunk side trim back into position.
    12.  
    13. Check and adjust the vehicle's rear end wheel alignment.

    CONTROL ARM BUSHING REPLACEMENT



    The upper control arm bushings are part of the control arm. If the bushings are worn or damaged, the control arm must be replaced as an assembly
