    Removal & Installation

    1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
      2.  
    2. Discharge and recover the air conditioning system refrigerant.
      3.  
    3. Drain the engine coolant into a clean container for reuse.
      4.  
    4. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
      CAUTION
      After disconnecting the negative battery cable, wait for at least 30 seconds for the SRS module to deplete its stored energy.

    5. Remove the bolts and expansion valve from evaporate core and plug the lines.
      6.  
    6. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater unit.
      7.  
    7. Remove or disconnect the following:

      Front seats
       
      Center console end cover
       
      Center console mounting bolts
       
      Center console
       
      Crash pad (dashboard) side trim
       
      Front pillar trim
       

      8.  
    8. Tilt the steering column down to the lowest position.
      9.  
    9. Remove the mounting screws for cluster trim panel.
      10.  
    10. Disconnect the trip sensor connector.
      11.  
    11. Remove the gauge cluster fascia panel.
      12.  
    12. Disconnect the hood release cable from hood release handle.
      13.  
    13. Remove the screws, bolts and clips from lower crash pad panels.
      14.  
    14. Disconnect the self-diagnosis connector from lower crash pad panel.
      15.  
    15. Remove the lower crash pad panel.
      16.  
    16. Remove the front console side trim.
      17.  
    17. Remove the front console upper cover.
      18.  
    18. Remove front console mounting screws.
      19.  
    19. Remove the front console.
      20.  
    20. Remove the mounting screws and clips for the center fascia panel.
      21.  
    21. Disconnect the electrical connectors to the center fascia panel.
      22.  
    22. Remove the center fascia panel.
      23.  
    23. Remove the radio and disconnect the electrical connectors.
      24.  
    24. Remove the heater control unit.
      25.  
    25. Remove the gauge cluster mounting screws.
      26.  
    26. Disconnect the cluster connectors and remove the gauge cluster.
      27.  
    27. Disconnect the air damper wire and guide from the glove box.
      28.  
    28. Disengage the hinge pins and remove the glove box.
      29.  
    29. Remove the driver airbag module by removing the two mounting bolts.
      30.  
    30. Remove the steering wheel center lock nut.
      31.  
    31. Align the marks on the steering shaft and wheel.
      32.  
    32. Install Special Tool 09561-11002 to remove the steering wheel.
      WARNING
      Do not hammer on the wheel to remove. Damage to the steering column may occur.

    33. Remove the upper and lower steering column shrouds.
      34.  
    34. Disconnect the two lower tightening bolts and remove the lower crash pad.
      35.  
    35. Disconnect the passenger-s air bag connector.
      36.  
    36. Remove the main crash pad.
      37.  
    37. Remove the cross member.
      38.  
    38. Remove the heater and evaporator unit.
      39.  
    39. Remove the side bracket and lower cover for the unit to access the heater core.
      40.  
    40. Installation is the reverse of removal. Observe the following:

      Ensure the crash pad fits on the guide pins correctly and no wiring harnesses are pinched.
       
      Any damaged trim clips must be replaced.

    1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
