    REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



    1. Shift the case into 4H.
    2.  
    3. Raise and support the Jeep on jackstands.
    4.  
    5. Drain the case.
    6.  
    7. Matchmark the rear driveshaft and remove it.
    8.  
    9. Disconnect the speedometer cable, vacuum hoses and vent hose from the case.
    10.  
    11. Support the transmission with a floor jack.
    12.  
    13. Remove the rear crossmember.
    14.  
    15. Matchmark the front driveshaft and remove it.
    16.  
    17. Disconnect the shift lever linkage rod at the case.
    18.  
    19. Remove the shift lever bracket bolts.
    20.  
    21. Support the transfer case with a floor jack or transmission jack and remove the attaching bolts.
    22.  
    23. Pull the case out of the Vehicle.
    24.  

    To install:
    1. Install the case.
    2.  
    3. Install the attaching bolts. Torque them to 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Install the shift lever bracket bolts.
    6.  
    7. Connect the shift lever linkage rod at the case.
    8.  
    9. Install the front driveshaft.
    10.  
    11. Install the crossmember. Torque the frame bolts to 30 ft. lbs. (41 Nm); the case bolts to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
    12.  
    13. Connect the speedometer cable, vacuum hoses and vent hose at the case.
    14.  
    15. Install the rear driveshaft.
    16.  
    17. Fill the case.
    18.  
    19. Lower the vehicle.
