    2.5L Engines



    1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    4.  
    5. Remove the accessory drive belt.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the electrical connector.
      NOTE
      Drain the power steering fluid into a suitable drain pan.

    8.  
    9. Disconnect the power steering pressure line.
    10.  
    11. Remove the lower power steering pump bolts.
    12.  
    13. Lower the vehicle.
    14.  
    15. Remove the power steering pressure line bracket bolt.
    16.  
    17. Disconnect the power steering low pressure hose.
    18.  
    19. Remove the bolts and the power steering pump.
    20.  
    21. Using the special tool 211-016, remove the power steering pump pulley.
    22.  

    To install:


    CAUTION
    Install a new power steering pump pulley after the second removal and installation. Inspect the pulley for paint marks in the web area near the hub. If there are two paint marks, install a new pulley. If there is no paint or one paint mark, use a paint pencil to mark the web area of the pulley near the hub.

    1. Using the special tool 211-185, install the power steering pump pulley.
    2.  
    3. Using the special tool 211-D027, install a new seal on the power steering pressure hose fitting. Remove and discard the original seal. Stretch the seal over the seal replace and slide it onto the tube nut.
    4.  
    5. Position the power steering pump and install the upper bolts.
    6.  
    7. Connect the power steering low pressure hose.
    8.  
    9. Position the power steering pressure line bracket and install the bolt.
    10.  
    11. Raise the vehicle.
    12.  
    13. Install the lower power steering pump bolts.
    14.  
    15. Connect the power steering pressure line.
    16.  
    17. Connect the electrical connector.
    18.  
    19. Install the drive belt.
    20.  
    21. Connect the negative battery cable.
    22.  
    23. Fill, bleed and leak check the power steering system.
    24.  

    3.0L Engine



    1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    4.  
    5. Drain power steering system.
    6.  
    7. Using the special tools 303-050 and 303-F072, support the engine.
    8.  
    9. Loosen the power steering pump pulley bolt.
    10.  
    11. Remove the drive belt.
    12.  
    13. Remove the bolt and the power steering pump pulley.
      NOTE
      Drain the power steering fluid into a suitable drain pan.

    14.  
    15. Remove the power steering pressure line bracket bolt.
    16.  
    17. Disconnect the electrical connector.
    18.  
    19. Disconnect the power steering pressure line and position aside.
    20.  
    21. Remove the nut and position the ground cable aside.
    22.  
    23. Remove the upper engine insulator bracket bolt.
    24.  
    25. Remove the A/C line support nut.
      NOTE
      The engine isolator bracket is shown removed for clarity.

    27. Remove the engine insulator nut.
    28.  
    29. Remove the bolt and the engine insulator.
    30.  
    31. Remove the pressure line bracket screw.
    32.  
    33. Remove the six nuts.
    34.  
    35. Remove five bolts and the power steering pump bracket.
    36.  
    37. Remove the power steering pump.
    38.  

    To install:

    1. Position the power steering pump.
    2.  
    3. Install the power steering pump bracket, five bolts, six nuts and pressure line bracket screw.
    4.  
    5. Install the engine insulator, bolts and nuts.
    6.  
    7. Install the upper engine insulator bracket bolt.
    8.  
    9. Position the A/C line support and install the nut.
    10.  
    11. Install the ground cable and nut.
    12.  
    13. Using the special tool, install a new seal on the power steering pressure hose fitting. Remove and discard the original seal. Stretch the seal over the special tool and slide it onto the tube nut.
    14.  
    15. Connect the power steering pressure hose. Connect the power steering pressure hose to the pump. Connect the electrical connector. Install the power steering pressure line bracket bolt.
    16.  
    17. Connect the power steering low pressure hose.
    18.  
    19. Install the power steering pump pulley and bolt.
    20.  
    21. Install the drive belt.
    22.  
    23. Torque the power steering pump pulley bolt to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm)
    24.  
    25. Lower the vehicle and remove the special tools 303-050 and 303-F072.
    26.  
    27. Fill, bleed and leak check the power steering system.

    CAUTION
    While repairing the power steering system, care should be taken to prevent the entry of contaminants or premature failure of the power steering components can result.

    1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    4.  
    5. Drain the power steering fluid into a suitable drain pan. Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner counterclockwise and position the accessory drive belt aside.
    6.  
    7. Release the clamp and remove the power steering fluid suction hose from the power steering pump.
    8.  
    9. Disconnect the power steering pressure line fitting nut from the power steering pump.
    10.  
    11. Remove the 3 power steering pump bolts.
      CAUTION
      Do not let the flow control valve fall out of the power steering pump.

    12.  
    13. Remove the power steering pump.
    14.  
    15. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Torque all fasteners to specification.
    16.  
    17. Fill, bleed and leak check the power steering system.
