    REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

    Model 300 Throttle Body
    1984-86 MODELS

    CAUTION
To reduce the risk of fire and personal injury, it is necessary to relieve the fuel system pressure before servicing any fuel system component. If this procedure is not performed, fuel may be sprayed out of the connection under pressure. Always keep a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher near the work area.

    1. Relieve the fuel pressure.
    2.
    3. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
    4.
    5. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Disconnect the electrical connector from the injector by squeezing the two tabs and pulling straight up.
    6.
    7. Remove the five fuel meter cover screws and lockwashers while holding the cover on the fuel meter body.
    8.
    9. Lift the fuel meter cover including the fuel pressure regulator assembly off the throttle body.
    10.
    11. Discard the fuel outlet passage gasket only. Leave the fuel meter cover gasket on the fuel meter body.
    12.

    CAUTION
Do not remove the four screws securing the fuel pressure regulator assembly to the fuel meter cover. The regulator cover contains a large spring under heavy tension which, if accidentally released, could cause personal injury. The assembly is serviced as a complete unit. Do not immerse the fuel meter cover in any type of industrial cleaner because damage to the pressure regulator may result.

    1. Remove the sealing ring for the base of the fuel pressure regulator.
    2.

    To install:

    1. Position the fuel meter cover to the fuel meter body with new gaskets and dust seals. Install the five fuel meter cover attaching screws and lock washers. Torque to 35 inch.lb. (4.0 Nm).
    2.
    3. Install the injector electrical connector by pushing straight down until seated firmly in place.
    4.
    5. Reconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
    6.
    7. With the engine NOT running, turn the ignition switch to the ON position and check for fuel leaks at the injector area.
    8.
    9. Install the air cleaner assembly.
    10.

    1. Relieve the fuel pressure.
    2.
    3. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
    4.

    CAUTION
The pressure regulator contains a large spring under heavy compression. Use care when removing the four screws to prevent personal injury.

    1. Remove the pressure regulator cover assembly (4 screws).
    2.
    3. Remove the regulator spring, spring seat and diaphragm assembly.
    4.

To prevent leaks, the pressure regulator diaphragm MUST be replaced when the cover is removed.

    To install:

    1. Position the new regulator diaphragm, spring, spring seat and cover on the throttle body assembly.
    2.
    3. Coat the four attaching screws with thread locking compound. Install the four attaching screws and torque to 22 inch.lb. (2.5 Nm).
    4.
    5. Connect the negative (-) battery cable.
    6.
    7. With the engine OFF, turn the ignition switch to the ON position and check for fuel leaks at the injector.
