Flywheel (Automatic Transmission) Operation:

Flywheels (sometimes called Flexplates) are used on engines equipped with an automatic transmission. It is is a relatively large but lightweight flexplate mounted on the rear of the crankshaft with a starter ring gear welded around it's outside diameter (with a few exceptions) for starter drive engagement during engine start-up.It smoothes out the firing impulse vibrations and provides inertia for a smooth engine idle. It also provides some of the static and dynamic balancing needed for the rotating engine mass.
How To Instructions:
Inspect
- Check for obvious problems.
Test
- Give it an in-depth diagnosis.
Replace
- Out with the old, in with the new.
