Clutch release bearings should be checked by turning the bearing while applying force in the direction of rotation.
Noise is an indication that something may be wrong with the bearing. If you experience release bearing noise with the clutch fully engaged, the cause may be a release bearing on transmission bearing retainer, if this is the case, clean, relubricate, and check for burrs, nicks, etc.
If you have a noisy bearing, the clutch bearing might be worn. If so, replace it.
