    Exhaust Pipe

    Inspect/Replace

    To inspect the exhaust pipe:

    • Look for dry black soot in the exhaust pipe. This often indicates an overly rich air/fuel mixture; not oil consumption.
    • Also look for broken or loose clamps and hanger. They can allow parts to separate or hit the road as the car moves.

Any inspection should include listening for hissing or rumbling that would result from a leak in the system. An on-lift inspection should pinpoint any of the following types of damage:

    • Kinks or dents.
    • Discoloration, rust, soft corroded metal, and so forth.
    • Holes, road damage or loose or separated connections.

    CAUTION
During all exhaust inspection and repair work, wear safety glasses or equivalent eye protection.
