    Rod Bearing

    Inspect/Test/Replace

Perform a cylinder leakage test or compression test to determine the cause of high oil consumption.

As each piston is fitted to the rod, double-check the bearing clearances.

    • Rod bearing clearance can be check by installing the rod bearings into the connecting rods and torquing the cap bolts to specifications.
    • Measure the inside diameter of the bearing and the outside diameter of its crankshaft journal.
    • Compute the difference between these readings, and divide it by two to obtain the oil clearance.
    • An alternative to the above method is to use a plastigage.
