Inspect/Test/Service/Replace

When a conventional shock absorber has been stored on a shelf in a horizontal position, an air space can develop within it. This will cause a skip in the middle of the shock's travel. If the air is not purged or bled, the shock can be misdiagnosed as defective.

Bleeding/purging shocks of air is done as follows:

• Extend the shock while it is in its normal vertical position.
• Turn the shock over so that the top is down and fully collapse the shock.
• Repeat the process four or five times while working out any skips caused by air.
