    Coil - Ignition

    Inspect/Test/Replace

    • Begin by conducting a careful visual inspection of the system. Check for good and tight primary connections.
    • Check the battery connection to the starter solenoid. Some vehicles use this connection as a voltage source for the coil. A bad connection can result in ignition interruption.
    • The coil should be inspected for cracks or any evidence of arcing, burning, or leaking at the coil tower.
    • The coil container should be inspected for oil leaks. If oil is leaking from the coil, air space is present in the coil, which allows condensation to form internally. Condensation in an ignition coil causes high voltage leaks and engine misfiring.
    • Ignition coils with the winding exposed should be carefully inspected for signs of burning.
    • Inspect the coil ground strap.
