    Fuel Injector

    Removal & Installation



    See Figure 1

    1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    2.  
    3. Remove the air cleaner and hose assembly.
    4.  
    5. Remove the throttle body upper and lower bonnets.
    6.  
    7. Remove the fuel injector wire by compressing the tabs and pulling it upwards.
    8.  
    9. Remove the fuel injector retainer clip screws. Remove the fuel injector retainer clip.
    10.  

    The injector has a small locating tab that fits into a slot in the bottom of the injector bore of the throttle body. DO NOT twist the injector during removal!

    1. Using a small pair of pliers, gently grasp the center collar of the injector, between the electrical terminals, and carefully remove the injector using a lifting/rocking motion.
    2.  
    3. Discard the centering ring and the upper and lower O-rings.
    4.  

    To install:
    1. Lubricate the upper and lower O-rings with transmission fluid and install them in the injector bore.
    2.  
    3. Install the centering ring on top of the upper O-ring and align locating ring on the injector with the slot in the housing.
    4.  
    5. Install the injector, retaining clip and retainer clip screws.
    6.  
    7. Engage the injector electrical connection.
    8.  
    9. Install the throttle body upper and lower bonnets and the air cleaner and hose assembly.
    10.  
    11. Connect the negative battery cable.
    12.

    1. With the ignition key/switch in the OFF position, unplug the fuel injector 2-way connector and use an ohmmeter to check the resistance between terminal B of the injector connector and terminal 6 of the diagnostic connector. If the resistance measures greater than 5 ohms, repair the open circuit between those terminals.

    1. If the resistance measures below 5 ohms, check the resistance between terminal A of the injector connector and a good ground.
    2.  
    3. If the resistance measures below 5 ohms, turn the ignition key/switch to the OFF position and unplug the ECU connector, then check the resistance between terminal A of the injector connector and a good ground.
    4.  
    5. If the resistance measures greater than 5 ohms, replace the ECU.
    6.  
    7. Connect the ECU connector.
    8.

    1. Check the resistance across the fuel injector terminals. If the resistance measures greater than 5 ohms, replace the fuel injector.
