    Needs replacement every year

2 of 2 people found this helpful

I needed to replace the original container on a 98 Chrysler Concorde in 2011. Got the Dorman Tank from AutoZone. It ruptured on a seam in 2012. Got a replacement on warranty. Again - broke one year later. Another replacement on lifetime warranty was installd. Today - on April 29th 2014 - the third Dorman tank blew after exactly 362 days of use. It always appears to be material fatigue. It starts to bulge out noticeably after about 6 months of use, then it is just a matter of time that it ruptures. This vehicle is driven in the mountains and experiences a 2500ft elevation change each day. I think the frequent change of outside air pressure in combination with the changes in Cooling system pressure and temperature cause these frequent failures. The Dorman tank is obviously made of weak materials. Much below the specs of the original Chrysler part which lasted 13 years. Good thing is, that AutoZone replaces the tank for free each time it ruptures. Obviously I have to do the work myself and live with the annoyance. Basic Point: Bad Product made in China. Feels like, I am stuck with it since there is no other brand that I know, which makes this part. Will get another used container from the junk yard and keep it in the trunk.
By the way, the pressure cap does not fit 100% tight and I had to check and refill coolant at least once amonth.

Pros: Fits like the Original Part into the car, free replacement when it ruptures

Cons: Low quality of materials, Pressure cap is not 100% tight
