    Thought it was my Jeep!

I am not sure I can post negatively enough, but I will tell you my story and call that good enough. I bought a project Jeep and began restoring it some years ago now. Let's just talk cooling system. After having a shop work on a head gasket failure, caused by overheating, I replaced everything except the water pump, the thermostat housing and the overflow bottle in the system. Along with these things I installed a Failsafe thermostat thinking it was a good investment considering there was about a grand worth of work done to fix the head gasket leak. This began a year and a half long ordeal with thermostat failures - that included two winters and one summer. Yeah, they failed "safe" multiple times while I froze my behind driving and fixing it in the garage. I kept going back to the Failsafe brand since the failed thermostats were under warranty. After a couple thermostats I tried to figure out why they kept failing. I flushed the system, dug around, and searched the internet for cooling system issues that might lead to the failures. Anyways, after a few more thermostat failures I ended up running into someone posting about having the same issue I was having and their solution was to get just a regular thermostat. Since many other people chimed in commenting about their experience with the garbage that is the Failsafe thermostat, I figured it was worth taking a "chance" with a standard one. That was now a year ago, and the Jeep, which is my daily driver, has not had one more issue. All I can say is get a regular thermostat and make sure your cooling system is well maintained with coolant and a good radiator cap. If you need more than my story to help you make a good decision, just read the other reviews here and do an internet search. It is still hard for me to believe their engineers aren't tasked with improving their product. I guess they must do good enough with their sales pitch. I really do find it hard to believe that in this day and age of consumer communication through the internet, the sales pitch of failing safe continues to stand as being good enough when their product is total garbage.

Pros: You'll get a lot of practice changing out your thermostat!

Cons: This is a garbage product

    Another terrible product

3 of 4 people found this helpful

Do not buy this product. The thermostat will get stuck open and you'll have to go buy another replacement. I put in two of these thinking the first was a fluke. Autozone should be ashamed to sell this garbage.

Pros: It looks like a thermostat

Cons: It doesn't work like a thermostat

Should be called Forever Stuck Open

4 of 5 people found this helpful

I got this because it was recommended by the clerk. Had it in for a couple of years, then noticed recently I had no heat. Pulled the housing and sure enough it was in the stuck open position. My truck never overheated, and certainly was under heating for some time, wasting gas and causing longer warmups. Do not buy this product, save your money and get a normal thermostat.

Pros: good if you have $14 burning a hole in your pocket

Cons: gets stuck open, stays open until you pull the housing off to replace it

    they suck

5 of 7 people found this helpful

This was the second one I have installed within a year. Both have failed to do the job. Do not waste your time or money on this thermostat. They should recall everyone that is on the market and start all over on again.

    Pros: none

Cons: they are not worth the money.
