Better than their cheaper version, far worse than OEM

1 of 2 people found this helpful

This was the second stoplight switch disappointment for my '96 Subaru Legacy.

Some background: In our car, if the brake switch goes out, you can't get it out of park. After 250k miles, our OEM switch died and I put in Autozone's cheapest switch, thinking it would last as long at this old car would. I was wrong. The switch died after 3 weeks. (Side note: they no longer sell that switch.)

So, I spent more and tried this one thinking it would last at least a bit longer. I was right. The switch lasted about 1,000 miles. Ouch.

In short, I've been through all the options on this particular part at AZ (for the record, I've been pretty darn happy with their other parts -- this one is a nasty exception). My final fix was to spend an extra $10.00 over the price of this one and buy OEM. It's just not worth the amount I saved to have my wife get stuck AGAIN because of a poorly made part. Who cares about a lifetime warranty in a case like this? Stuck is stuck and it's a huge inconvenience and potential safety issue.

So, here's looking to my new OEM switch lasting another 200k miles.

    Pros: Cheap?

Cons: Didn't last. Died after 1,000 miles.
