Canister purge valve solenoid easy to install!

2 of 2 people found this helpful

This solenoid fits exactly to the charcoal canister on my 1999 Camry 3.0 V6. The check engine codes were 441 and 446. My research showed this is the most common failure with these codes. Taking out the canister, removing all the hoses and connections, and dropping the exhaust is probably not necessary to replace this part. I think you would need to remove the two 14 mm bolts that hold the canister in place, and move the canister a bit. That way you could get access to the screw that holds the solenoid. Also, I found a lift isn't necessary, but ramps are helpful. The evap canister is in between the trunk and gas tank and you access it from under the car. So far I have driven the car up the street and back since the solenoid installation today. I will update this review if necessary after the computer has been able to determine if the evap problems are gone.
This youtube video shows how to test your solenoid to see if it is bad http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IUHo_nQgDxM&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DIUHo_nQgDxM
    Or search "p0441 and p0446".

Pros: Only need to remove one screw and two bolts, It costs under 53 dollars while the evap canister can cost over 300, keeps your evap canister system functioning correctly.

Cons: May need vise-grips and penetrating oil to remove rusted screw, you need to get under the car between the rear wheels to replace this part.
