    Good fit for 1997 Mitsubishi Galant

    I bought this to go in my 1997 Mitsubishi Galant that is 17 years old at the time of this review. The flange bolts were rusted so bad that I had to cut them off with a grinder. I used a 4-1/2 inch cutoff wheel and cut the heads off on the outside of the flanges instead of between the flanges so as not to damage the joint sealing surfaces. One of the bolts on the front end is almost impossible to reach with a grinder unless you first cut the back bolts, disconnect the hangers and gently lower the converter down a few inches being careful not to stress the flexible joint that is upstream from the converter. Support the weight of the converter while doing this.
    You will most likely need new hardware. I used metric nuts and bolts to match the car. The 4 flange bolts are M10-1.25 x 35mm. Then you need the M10 washers, M10 lock washers and M10-1.25 nuts. For the 2 hangers you can reuse the bolts but they thread into welded nuts on the old converter (the new converter doesn’t have welded nuts-it just has the mounting holes) so you will need 4 nuts size M8-1.25 and 4 flat washers. There are captive lockwashers on the bolts already.
    Because of the giant mounting holes on the new converter flanges the pipes/joints don’t line up perfectly on their own. Also the gaskets are larger than the outside diameter of the flanges so you have to pay close attention to the alignment of everything. I suggest a dry fit without the gaskets in place so you can see how it lines up. My first attempt after tightening everything down I had a leak at the top of both joints. I loosened everything up and worked really hard to make sure it was all aligned properly and then it worked out and there were no leaks.

    Pros: Light weight, mounting holes and flanges line up

    Cons: No hardware included, bolt holes on flanges are huge making proper alignment harder
