Saved My Bacon - Perfect Fit - End of Troubles

I had ordered a sensor on eBay last week. When it arrived, I installed the sensor and took it for a test drive. After warm-up, I was out in the boonies when it began to buck like a mule. Eventually I made it back home, installed the original sensor and headed to Autozone.

Now, I enjoy the convenience of "home shopping", but I won't fool around with cheap imitations again.

A tip on installation. Be sure the engine has cooled off a couple hours.

I used a 1/4 inch drive 10 mm regular socket, added a 3 inch extension, then a universal joint. I used a "screwdriver bit" handle to remove the screw. It's tight quarters, and it's nearly impossible to even see the head of the bolt. As a precaution, I used a piece of play-dough stuffed in the socket. This enabled me to extract the bolt without it falling into the "black hole".

Don't be tempted to pull on the wires to remove the sensor. It may help to use a fine blade screwdriver to pop out the old sensor, since the O-ring may give resistance.

The new sensor has an O-ring. Put a drop of motor oil on the rubber O-ring seal to make it easier. Once the sensor is in, you may need to rotate the sensor so that the ear lines up with the motor casting. You can feel it at around the 5 o'clock position. Be sure you put some play-dough in the socket, insert the bolt head, and with your left hand, guide the bolt into the hole.

Now, after having fiddled with the original sensor for 1/2 hour to get it out, only to put in a defective piece of junk from an eBay seller, and then re-install the original sensor, I was able to remove the original sensor, install the new Autozone sensor in record time. 5 minutes. But don't come knocking on my door. My back is killing me.

If ever I need to replace the crankshaft position sensor, I'll send in my grandson with his skinny hands.

Pros: Perfect fit, no more cam position error code.
