Similar issue as the other commentor

Like the other commenter mentioned, the original replacement was a Nippon Denso remanufactured alternator (Had an ND logo on the side). It lasted a few months before it was no longer recharging the battery. So I went Autozone and got a replacement for the replacement. This alternator had a shinier plate on it without the ND logo on it. So far, so good. However, spending 6 hours redoing what I had done only a few months prior chaps my hide. This better be the last time for a while.

    Pros: affordable

Cons: first replacement only lasted a few months

    Died on first drive

1 of 1 people found this helpful

Received a remanufactured nippon-denso alternator as ordered. Installed in vehicle and tested at idle, 14 volts with all accessories on, no problem. Took car for a drive, accelerated from a stop light and the charging system light came on and didn't go off. Got home and checked voltage, no longer charging at 14, just battery voltage. I did extensive multimeter testing, and couldn't find any other obvious issues, I also checked all the connections. I took it out, returned it to store. It was exchanged with no issues. I received a mitsubishi model this time (they are interchangeable), the mitsubishi variant installed much easier due to a more compact case size. Started vehicle, and everything tested out fine. Took for a longer drive, and so far no issues with that one. Even though the original was labeled as 'triple tested' I doubt it was actually tested under the correct rpm and loads it experiences in actual use. Likely a cheap set of diodes in the regulator or rectifier. Remanufactured is a risk sometimes, but much less expensive than new, I just wish I didn't have to go through a second round of troubleshooting and removal/installation.

    Pros: Affordable

Cons: Had to replace it twice instead of once, remanufactured in Mexico
