    Delphi OEM fuel Pump FP0407

My GMC Sierra 2000 had hard starting and the fuel gauge was intermittent. Changed Fuel pressure regulator for the starting but that didn't cure it. Old pump couldn't build up enough pressure to open injectors.

The new pump fit fine EXCEPT that I had to change the one connector. I did the "tilt the bed method" so it was hard to reach. Pushed the harness down by the driveshaft for better access to the connector from under the vehicle. The instructions were clear enough. They said to connect the black with a stripe (on the vehicle) to the Org/Blk on the harness. My vehicle had the org/blk so that was clear enough. The kit comes with butt splices with heat shrink ends so you WILL have to use a heat gun... (DON"T USE A MATCH OR LIGHTER BY YOUR FUEL TANK!!!!).

The pump was quiet when started but the new Delphi fuel regulator didn't like the pressure and made all kinds of noise like a squealing faucet. Was worried the pump was bad. Did a warranty exchange on the new Delphi regulator and between the two, now all is fine.

The pump has a brochure with it touting the vast improvements over the previous pump. It covered things like: "color of the plastic is now white instead of ivory", "Float is a certain color", the "sock" is eliminated in favor of an internal strainer and the vertical spring mounted support went from 3 rods to 2 rods.
The first two are no biggie. The third could be an improvement, but who really knows. The fourth however seems more like a cost cutting measure as the pump isn't quite as stable as the previous pump so I'm not sure how this is an "improvement".

Pros: Works well - solved problems

Cons: Required changing vehicle connector to match new pump

    Delphi fuel pump and sender

Just installed it yesterday, instead of cutting the wires on the wiring harness of the truck for the different connector on the fuel pump assembly I utilized the connector on the old fuel pump assembly and spliced the new connector to it and then plugged both in. I did this in case I ever had to replace it again and it happened to have the original connector as does the Bosh fuel pump assembly for this truck (2001 1500 Silverado). As soon as I had it installed it fired right up and the fuel gauge was working properly. (Both were failing on the old one-intermittent fuel level and the lower the fuel tank was the harder it was to start due to the fuel pump not coming up to pressure.) I will say it was easy to change by taking all the bolts out of the truck bed, disconnecting the fuel neck filler from the bed and disconnecting the 2 electrical connectors for the bed and then I just raised up the driver side of the bed supported by a couple boards and let the other side sit on the tire. It all worked great and had it replaced in about 1.5 hours. Also having a lifetime warranty is a big plus!

Pros: Easy to install and works as designed and did I say lifetime warranty.

Cons: Have to change one of the connectors on the truck wiring harness
