    Get tanked!

Box the tank came in was pretty beat up. The lips/seams where the metal is welded together was bent to heck. No big deal there. The filler neck was bent too which was a problem.... bent back in place with some channel lock pliers. It was special order. It would have been to much of a hassle to return it and wait for another to come.
My old tank was leaking from the top and sides. Could smell gas fumes and fuel would leak out when I filled up.

Vent on top of the tank is not included so don't butcher your old one when you remove it. Tank does include a new locking ring and rubber sending unit seal. I had replaced the sending unit the year before but I'm not one to scoff at newer OEM quality parts.

Do recommend sanding and painting the tank before installing. Put an old bicycle inner-tube or something similar between the tank straps and the tank. You don't want to scratch up your perdy new tank or paint job and promote icky rust.

After two years in the salt belt I noticed rust spots developing on the fuel tank. Some were pretty deep.
Drained, dropped the tank and sanded it down and painted it while in the process of undercoating my car for the upcoming winter.

This tank was for my Dodge Neon and was a breeze to install with the car up on ramps. Draining, dropping, replacing sending unit and re-install only took about 30 minutes. Sanding painting and waiting for it to dry takes far longer. In the meantime you can check/replace your EVAP lines and replace the old crusty clamps while your under the car playing.
Drill out the three rivets on your filler neck and take that puppy out too and check for issues. Wire brush the rust off and give it a perdy coat of paint. Autozone sells pop rivet guns. Easy as heck to pop it back in after the paint cures. Either that or let the rot progress and spend a pretty penny on a new filler neck... they cost more than the tank.
My filler neck had a hole behind the welded rectangular bracket... Surprised the PCM didn't throw a code and I didn't smell gas fumes. I cut out the bracket and rust back to 'good' metal and welded in a 2"x4" patch with my 120v MIG welder, flux core wire. Some rust inhibitor and fresh coat of paint and it looks beautiful. Yeah, only you're going to see it but it's nice to know it's in good shape.

While the tank is out check and inspect everything under there. On Neon's the brake lines run above the fuel tank. May be worth swapping them out too if they look rough. Wire brush and paint the underbelly of car with some sort of rust inhibitor and metal paint. Rattle can works great on tight spots but you'll get more bang for your buck with a can of paint and a $1 paint brush.
Impress your service guy at your yearly state emission/safety inspection. Mine about had an organism when he saw how good the underbelly of my 18 year old car looked. He completely forgot to check my front end. That's about all new too with parts from Autozone. About the same with the exhaust. Replaced everything from the exhaust manifold flange gasket to the tail pipe. Including the catalytic converter and hangers for under $200 last year. The car purrs.

Not rich by any means and do everything on a budget. Autozone helps with that. The car was built before I was even old enough to have a license. Hope to keep her going for another ten years. Pretty soon she'll qualify as a classic car.

Pros: Shiny, new and air tight

Cons: Lack of selection in sizes and colors
