    oem pitman arm puller

    for a really tough job, this is the tool. I couldn't get that darned pitman arm off to save my life, rented this gem and that was it.

    Pros: only good things to say about it

    I used it to separate ball joint studs from upper control arm on 96 Tacoma FWD!

    So I rented adjustable pitman arm puller (OEM 27170). Before using it I replaced the stock clamp bolts with two 110 mm long M8 bolts (Class 12.9) to fit over the upper control arms of 95 Tacoma 4WD The puller had plenty of power and effortlessly pushed ball joint studs out. I did not, however, use the stud end protector under forcing screw and made dimples in the center of the studs, requiring me latter to restore distorted cotter pin holes with the needle file. Also the hex on the screw calls for use of 26 mm socket (not 1”)

    Necessary for Heavy Duty Ball-Joints

    Needed to replace the front shocks/struts on my 2004 F-150 FX4. This was the only tool with a long enough pull distance that could accomplish this task on a very rusty (New England winters...) upper ball joint. After messing with other tools for hours I went to Autozone and rented this tool and got the joint apart in less than 5 minutes. A smaller tool is probably good for 90% of vehicles but if you have a big, heavy duty vehicle, you need a big heavy duty tool.
