Removal & Installation




WARNING
Release fuel system pressure before servicing system components. Service vehicles in a well-ventilated area and avoid ignition sources. Never smoke while servicing the vehicle.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Drain the cooling system.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Remove the engine appearance cover.

  11. Remove the air intake assembly.

  13. Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel rail.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the fuel injector electrical connectors.
  16.  
  17. Remove the fuel rail. Refer to Fuel Rail & Injectors, removal & installation.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the electrical connectors for the oil temperature sensor, variable valve timing solenoid, and intake camshaft position sensor.
  20.  
  21. Position the wiring harness out of the way.
  22.  
  23. Remove the throttle body support bracket.
  24.  
  25. Disconnect the electronic throttle control electrical connector.
  26.  
  27. Remove the wiring harness retainer from the intake manifold.
  28.  
  29. Disconnect the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor electrical connector.
  30.  
  31. Disconnect the vacuum lines from the intake manifold.
  32.  
  33. Remove the upper radiator hose retaining bracket.
  34.  
  35. Remove the intake manifold retaining bolts.
  36.  
  37. Remove the intake manifold and gasket.
  38.  

To install:

  1. Clean the gasket surfaces.
  2.  
  3. Using a new gasket, install the intake manifold, in sequence, to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).

  5. Install the upper radiator hose support bracket.
  6.  
  7. Connect the vacuum lines to the intake manifold.
  8.  
  9. Install the fuel rail assembly and tighten the mounting bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Connect the fuel injector electrical connectors.
  12.  
  13. Connect the fuel supply hose.
  14.  
  15. Reconnect the electrical connectors previously removed.
  16.  
  17. Install the air intake assembly.
  18.  
  19. Fill the cooling system with the proper fluid to the correct level.
  20.  
  21. Install the engine appearance cover.
  22.
