Diagnosis & Testing
Motor & Regulator

Specific to:

Jeep Compass 2007-2009

Jeep Patriot 2007-2009

Any diagnosis of the Window Regulator Modules should begin with the use of the scan tool. For information on the use of the scan tool, refer to the appropriate Diagnostic Service Information. For complete circuit diagrams, refer to the appropriate wiring information.

If the power window motor is receiving proper current and ground and does not operate, proceed with the motor test. For complete circuit diagrams, refer to the appropriate wiring information.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Remove the front door trim panel, as necessary, to gain access to the power window motor wire connector.
  4.
  5. Disconnect the power window motor wire connector from the door harness.
  6.
  7. Using two jumper wires, connect one to a battery (+) source and the other to a good ground (-).
  8.
  9. Connect the Negative (-) jumper probe to one of the motor connector terminals.
  10.
  11. Momentarily touch the Positive (+) jumper probe to the other motor connector terminal.
    1. When the positive probe is connected, the motor should rotate in one direction to either move the window up or down.
    2.
    3. If the window is all the way up or down, the motor will grunt and the inner door panel will flex when actuated in that one direction.
    4.

  12.
  13. Reverse the jumper probes at the motor connector terminals
    1. The window should now move in the opposite direction.
    2.
    3. If the window does not move or grunt, replace the motor.
    4.

  14.
  15. If the window moved completely up or down, reverse the jumper probes and cycle the window to the opposite position to verify full operation.
  16.
  17. If the motor grunts and does not move, verify that the regulator is not binding.
  18.

Wiring Voltage Test

Specific to:

Jeep Compass 2007-2009

Jeep Patriot 2007-2009

Any diagnosis of the Window Regulator Modules should begin with the use of the scan tool. For information on the use of the scan tool, refer to the appropriate Diagnostic Service Information. For complete circuit diagrams, refer to the appropriate wiring information.

The following wiring test determines whether or not voltage is continuous through the body harness to the front switch. For complete circuit diagrams, refer to the appropriate wiring information.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Remove the power window switch and bezel.
  4.
  5. Disconnect the wire connector from the back of the power window switch.
  6.
  7. Switch the ignition to the ON position.
  8.
  9. Connect the clip end of a 12 volt test light to Pin 4 of the window switch harness connector. Touch the test light probe to Pin 3.
    1. If the test light illuminates, the wiring circuit between the battery and switch is OK.
    2.
    3. If the lamp does not illuminate, first check the 30 AMP circuit breaker in the fuse block. If the circuit breaker is OK, then check for a broken wire.

Removal & Installation
Motor & Regulator

Specific to:

Jeep Compass 2007-2009

Jeep Patriot 2007-2009

The window regulator modules are directly connected to each of the front door window regulator motors. The window switches are hard-wired to the respective window regulator module. Both front door window switches have the express-down feature. The module will cease lowering the front glass when a fully down position is sensed through the hall effect sensor.

When a module must be replaced, it is necessary to replace the entire regulator assembly.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Move the window to the full UP position, if possible.
  4.
  5. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
  6.
  7. Remove the screw (1) from the pull handle.
  8.
  9. Using a trim stick C-4755, or equivalent, separate the bolster (3) from the door module (2).
  10.
  11. Disconnect the electrical connectors (1).
  12.
  13. Allow the door bolster to hang by the tethers.

  15. Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the motor.
  16.
  17. Remove the window regulator.
  18.
  19. With the regulator on the bench, remove the 4 screws retaining the motor to the regulator and remove the motor.
  20.

To install:

  1. With the regulator on the bench, install the 4 screws retaining the motor to the regulator.
  2.
  3. Install the window regulator.
  4.
  5. Connect the electrical harness connector to the window motor.
  6.
  7. Install the door bolster.
  8.
  9. Connect the battery negative cable.
  10.
  11. Verify the power window operation.
