2.7L Engine

WARNING
Hot, pressurized coolant can cause injury by scalding. Cooling system must be partially drained before removing the coolant temperature sensor.

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Partially drain cooling system.
  4.
  5. Disconnect the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (ECT) electrical connector.
  6.
  7. Remove engine coolant sensor from coolant outlet tube.
  8.
  9. Apply thread sealant to sensor threads.
  10.

To install:

  1. Install engine coolant temperature sensor into coolant outlet tube.
  2.
  3. Tighten the sensor to 20 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
  4.
  5. Connect the electrical connector to ECT sensor.
  6.

3.5L Engine

CAUTION
Hot, pressurized coolant can cause injury by scalding. Cooling system must be partially drained before removing the coolant temperature sensor.

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Partially drain cooling system.
  4.
  5. With the engine cold, disconnect coolant sensor electrical connector.
  6.
  7. Remove sensor.
  8.

To install:

  1. Install engine coolant temperature sensor and tighten to 20 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
  2.
  3. Attach electrical connector to sensor.
  4.
  5. Connect negative battery cable and fill the cooling system.
  6.

5.7L Engine

The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor on the 5.7L engine is located under the air conditioning compressor. It is installed into a water jacket at the front of the cylinder block .

CAUTION
Hot, pressurized coolant can cause injury by scalding. Cooling system must be partially drained before removing the coolant temperature sensor.

  1. Partially drain the cooling system.
  2.
  3. Remove accessory drive belt, as outlined in the Engine Mechanical section.
  4.
  5. Carefully unbolt air conditioning compressor from front of engine. Do not disconnect any A/C hoses from compressor. Temporarily support compressor to gain access to ECT sensor.
  6.
  7. Disconnect electrical connector from sensor.
  8.
  9. Remove sensor from cylinder block.
  10.

To install:

  1. Apply thread sealant to sensor threads.
  2.
  3. Install ECT sensor to engine and tighten to 97 inch lbs. (11 Nm).
  4.
  5. Connect electrical connector to ECT sensor.
  6.
  7. Install the drive belt.
  8.
  9. Fill the cooling system
