Stabilizer Bar (Sway Bar) & Links

Removal & Installation



All Wheel Drive
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove belly pan.
  6.  
  7. On each side of vehicle, remove nut fastening stabilizer link to stabilizer bar. Slide link ball joint stem from bar.
  8.  
  9. On each side of vehicle, remove bolts fastening stabilizer bar isolator retainer in place.
  10.  
  11. Remove stabilizer bar with isolators and retainers from vehicle.
  12.  
  13. On each side of bar, remove retainers from around stabilizer bar isolators.
  14.  
  15. Utilizing slit, remove each isolator from stabilizer bar.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Utilizing slit in isolator, install each stabilizer bar isolator on bar. Make sure slit in isolator is positioned toward rear of vehicle once installed on vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install stabilizer bar isolator retainer over each isolator.
    NOTE
    When attaching stabilizer link to stabilizer bar, make sure link ball joint stem is pointed inboard toward engine cradle.

  4.  
  5. Install stabilizer bar ends to each stabilizer link. Slide link ball joint stem through mounting hole in bar. Loosely install nuts at this time.
  6.  
  7. Raise stabilizer bar to engine cradle, placing bushings into mounted position.
  8.  
  9. Install bolts securing each stabilizer bar isolator retainer to cradle. Tighten bolts to 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm).
  10.  
  11. While holding stem from rotating at hex or flat tighten stabilizer link nuts at each end of stabilizer bar to 95 ft. lbs. (128 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install belly pan.
  14.  
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16.  

RWD Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove belly pan.

  7. On each side of vehicle, remove screws fastening stabilizer bar heat shield. Remove heat shield.

  9. On each side of vehicle, remove bolts fastening stabilizer bar isolator retainer in place.

  11. On each side of vehicle, remove retainer halves from around stabilizer bar isolator.

  13. Utilizing slit, remove each isolator from stabilizer bar.

  15. On each side of vehicle, remove nut (5) fastening stabilizer link (3) to stabilizer bar (4). Slide link ball joint stem (1) from bar, then remove bar from vehicle.

To install:


NOTE
When attaching stabilizer link to stabilizer bar, make sure link ball joint stem is pointed inboard toward engine cradle.

  1. On each side of vehicle, raise stabilizer bar to stabilizer link and slide link ball joint stem through mounting hole in bar. Loosely install nut at this time.
    WARNING
    Because of stabilizer isolator outer shape, it is very important to install isolators in position discussed in following step.

  3. Utilizing slit in isolator, install each stabilizer bar isolator on bar resting against locating collar as shown. Make sure slit in isolator is positioned toward rear of vehicle.
  4.  
  5. On each side of vehicle, install stabilizer bar isolator retainer halves around isolator.
  6.  
  7. On each side of vehicle, install bolts securing stabilizer bar isolator retainer halves to cradle. Tighten bolts to 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm).
  8.  
  9. On each side of vehicle, install stabilizer bar heat shield over stabilizer bar isolator retainer. Install mounting screws.
  10.  
  11. While holding stem from rotating at hex or flat tighten stabilizer link nuts at each end of stabilizer bar to 95 ft. lbs. (128 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install belly pan.
  14.  
  15. Lower vehicle.
  16.
