Camshaft Position Sensor

Removal & Installation



2.7L
  1. Remove sensor. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Unlock and disconnect electrical connector.
  4.  
  5. Remove mounting bolt.
  6.  

To install:

  1. Install sensor.
  2.  
  3. Install mounting bolt.
  4.  
  5. Tighten bolt to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.).
  6.  
  7. Connect electrical connector and lock.
  8.  
  9. Connect negative battery cable.

3.5L Engine
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Unlock electrical connector.
  4.  
  5. Remove electrical connector.
  6.  
  7. Remove mounting bolt.
  8.  
  9. Remove sensor.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install new spacer to sensor if installing the old sensor or new sensor will have the spacer installed.
  2.  
  3. Install sensor and insert until sensor makes contact with tone wheel.
  4.  
  5. Install mounting bolt.
  6.  
  7. Tighten mounting bolt to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.).
  8.  
  9. Install and lock the electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Connect negative battery cable.

5.7L & 6.1L Engines
  1. Disconnect electrical connector (4) at CMP sensor.
  2.  
  3. Remove sensor mounting bolt (3).
  4.  
  5. Carefully twist sensor from timing chain cover.
  6.  
  7. Check condition of sensor O-ring.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Clean out machined hole in timing chain cover.
  2.  
  3. Apply a small amount of engine oil to sensor O-ring.
  4.  
  5. Install sensor (1) into timing chain cover (2) with a slight rocking action. Do not twist sensor into position as damage to O-ring may result.
    WARNING
    Before tightening sensor mounting bolt, be sure sensor is completely flush to timing chain cover. If sensor is not flush, damage to sensor mounting tang may result.

  6.  
  7. Install mounting bolt (3) and tighten to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.)
  8.  
  9. Connect electrical connector (4) to sensor.
