Timing Belt Cover

Removal & Installation



3.5L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Perform fuel pressure release procedure.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Remove accessory drive belt.
  8.  
  9. Remove accessory drive belt tensioner.
  10.  
  11. Remove bolts for power steering pump. Reposition power steering pump aside.
  12.  
  13. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  14.  
  15. Remove crankshaft damper bolt and remove the damper with a puller.
  16.  
  17. Remove the lower front timing belt cover fasteners.
  18.  
  19. Lower the vehicle.
  20.  
  21. Remove the upper timing belt cover bolts and remove front timing belt cover.

To install:

  1. Exchange the accessory drive belt pulley if necessary. Tighten bolt to 45 ft. lbs. (61 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install upper front timing belt cover.
  4.  
  5. Install lower timing belt front cover.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the timing cover bolts as follows:

    M6 bolts: 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm)
     
    M8 bolts: 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm)
     
    M10 bolts: 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm)
     

  8.  
  9. Install power steering pump fasteners. Tighten bolts to 200 inch lbs. (23 Nm).

  10.  
  11. Install crankshaft damper. Torque to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install accessory drive belt tensioner. Torque fastener to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install accessory drive belt.
  16.  
  17. Lower vehicle.
  18.  
  19. Connect negative battery cable.
