2.7L Engine



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
    CAUTION
    Do not remove pressure cap with the system hot and pressurized. Serious burns from coolant can result.

  3. Drain cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Remove upper radiator hose.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect cooling fan electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove cooling fan mounting bolts.
  12.  
  13. Remove radiator cooling fan assembly from vehicle.
  14.  
  15. Remove radiator fan assembly.
  16.  
  17. Remove accessory drive belt.
    NOTE
    The water pump is driven by the primary timing chain.

  19. Remove the timing chain and all chain guides.

  21. Remove bolts attaching water pump to block.
  22.  
  23. Remove water pump and gasket.
  24.  

To install

  1. Clean all sealing surfaces.
  2.  
  3. Install water pump and gasket. Tighten mounting bolts to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install timing chain guides and timing chain.
  6.  
  7. Install the accessory drive belts.
  8.  
  9. Position radiator cooling fan assembly in vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Install cooling fan mounting bolts. Tighten to 50 inch lbs. (6 Nm)
  12.  
  13. Connect cooling fan electrical connector.
  14.  
  15. Install upper radiator hose.
  16.  
  17. Fill cooling system.
  18.  
  19. Operate engine until it reaches normal operating temperature. Check cooling system and automatic transmission for correct fluid levels.
  20.  

3.5L Engine



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
    CAUTION
    Do not remove pressure cap with the system hot and under pressure because serious burns from coolant can occur.

  3. Drain cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Remove accessory drive belts.
    NOTE
    The water pump is driven by the timing belt.

  6.  
  7. Remove engine timing belt.
  8.  
  9. Remove water pump mounting bolts. Note position of longer bolts for proper installation.
  10.  
  11. Remove water pump body from engine.

To install:

  1. Clean all O-ring surfaces on front cover.
  2.  
  3. Position water pump and O-ring to engine.
  4.  
  5. Install mounting bolts. Tighten to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install timing belt.
  8.  
  9. Install accessory drive belts.
  10.  
  11. Fill cooling system.
  12.  

5.7L Engines



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Drain cooling system.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Remove upper radiator hose.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect cooling fan electrical connector.
  12.  
  13. Remove cooling fan mounting bolts.
  14.  
  15. Remove radiator cooling fan assembly from vehicle.
  16.  
  17. Remove radiator fan assembly.
  18.  
  19. Remove accessory drive belt.
  20.  
  21. Remove thermostat.
    NOTE
    The water pump mounting bolts are different lengths. Note the location of the water pump mounting bolts.

  23. Remove water pump mounting bolts and remove water pump.

To install:

  1. Install water pump and mounting bolts. Tighten mounting bolts to 20 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Make sure double ended bolt is in the proper location. Tighten double ended bolt to 20 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Position radiator cooling fan assembly in vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Install cooling fan mounting bolts. Tighten to 50 inch lbs. (6 Nm)
  8.  
  9. Connect cooling fan electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Install upper radiator hose.
  12.  
  13. Install thermostat.
  14.  
  15. Install accessory drive belt.
  16.  
  17. Install the radiator fan assembly.
  18.  
  19. Connect negative battery cable.
  20.  
  21. Fill cooling system.
  22.  
  23. Pressure test cooling system.
  24.
