Removal & Installation



2.7L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the valve covers.
  6.  
  7. Position the camshaft so that the base circle (heel) is facing the rocker arm being serviced.
    WARNING
    Depress the valve spring only enough to remove the rocker arm or damage to the spring may result.

  8.  
  9. Using Valve Spring tool 8215 and Adapter 8216, depress the valve spring enough to release the tension on the rocker arm.
    NOTE
    If the rocker arms are to be reused, identify their positions for reassembly in their original positions.

  10.  
  11. Repeat this procedure for each rocker arm being removed.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Lubricate the rocker arms with clean engine oil, prior to installation.
  2.  
  3. Position the camshaft so that the base circle (heel) is facing the rocker arm being installed.
    WARNING
    Depress the valve spring only enough to install the rocker arm or damage to the spring may result.

  4.  
  5. Using Valve Spring tool 8215 and Adapter 8216, depress the valve spring enough to install the rocker arm.
  6.  
  7. Install the rocker arm in the original position (if reused) over the valve and lash adjuster.
    NOTE
    Inspect the rocker arm for proper engagement into the lash adjuster and valve tip.

  8.  
  9. Release the tension on the valve spring and remove the tools.
  10.  
  11. Install the valve covers and connect the negative battery cable.
  12.
