Timing Check


2.5L (Kl) Engines

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
    If the information given in the following procedures differs from that on the emission information label located in the engine compartment, follow the directions given on the label. The label often reflects production changes made during the model year.


The timing is controlled by the computer. Ignition timing adjustment is not possible or necessary.

  1. If the timing is still not within specification. the following components may be defective:

    Camshaft position (CMP) sensor
    Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor
    Throttle Position (TP) sensor
    Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor
    Neutral switch if equipped with a manual transaxle
    Clutch switch if equipped with a manual transaxle
    Transaxle range switch if equipped with an automatic transaxle

  3. If the above components are normal, replace the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
