Operation

The control module uses programmed limits and values from various sensors to determine the maximum permissible fuel quantity per combustion.

The control module fitted in the well (cabin side) in front of the windscreen on the passenger side has two connectors, one 81-pin and one 40-pin.

The control module is powered with +30 on pin 1 and 2 from the main relay, +15 from fuse 27 to pin 24 and +50 from fuse 30 to pin 42. The control module has a running-on function that must complete before the control module stops grounding the main relay.

The running-on function is controlled by DICE via the I- and P-bus and starts when the ignition key is turned to OFF, i.e. the +15 supply on pin 24 ceases. DICE keeps the ECM control module awake (about 40 s) in order to read the engine temperature and control the radiator fan.

The control module has a flash memory and cannot be reprogrammed.

  10.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.
  3. Reset the immobilizer using a Tech2 diagnostic tool.
  4.

2.3L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions.
  2.
  3. Connect Tech2 and contact Trionic. Select BioPower E85. Note "Adapted Ethanol Content" in %. If it is not possible to contact the control module, estimate the ethanol content in the tank (0% ethanol is pure petrol and 85% ethanol is pure E85).
  4.
  5. Remove the blanking-off washers on the wiper spindle nuts and loosen the nuts slightly.
  6.
  7. Loosen the wiper arms with a puller, special tool (part no. 85 80 144). Remove the nuts and wiper arms.
  8.
  9. Remove the rubber wiper spindle seals.
  10.
  11. Remove the two screw clips on the ends of the windscreen cover.
  12.
  13. Loosen the rubber seal.
  14.
  15. Remove the windscreen cover by grasping the front edge and lifting upward/forward. Be careful with the bonnet release wire on the left-hand side.
  16.
  17. Undo the protective cover on the control module.
  18.
  19. Tilt up the cover and unplug the control module multi-connector by releasing the catch on the right.
  20.
  21. Undo the control module's 2 retaining nuts and remove them. A 10 mm magnetic socket will be useful for this.
  22.
  23. Lift the control module straight up.

  24.

To install:

  1. Position the control module from above.
  2.
  3. Install the 2 control module retaining nuts.
  4.
  5. Spray the control module multi-connector with Kontakt 61 and plug in the connector.
  6.
  7. Install the protective cover on the control module.
  8.
  9. Install the windscreen cover. Be careful with the bonnet release wire on the left-hand side.
  10.
  11. Install the rubber seal.
  12.
  13. Fasten the screw clips on the ends of the windscreen cover.
  14.
  15. Install the rubber wiper spindle seals.
  16.
  17. Install the nuts on the wiper spindles with the blanking-off washers on the nuts.
  18.
  19. Perform Measures after changing a control module.
  20.
  21. Connect Tech 2 to check whether the control module requires programming.
  22.
  23. Reset immobilization. Connect Tech2 and turn the ignition to ON . Select Body and TWICE. Select Immobilization. After 10 seconds the immobilizer is programmed.
  24.

Testing

Use a Tech 2 scan tool to verify communication with ECM. If no communication, check power and grounds to the ECM.
