Removal & Installation


The fuel injection system remains under pressure, even after the engine has been turned OFF . The fuel system pressure must be relieved before disconnecting any fuel lines. Failure to do so may result in fire and/or personal injury.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  3. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  5. Be sure that the ignition switch is in the OFF position.
  7. Locate the fuel filter, which is mounted under the vehicle and forward of the fuel tank.
  9. Thoroughly clean the area around the banjo fittings before continuing.
  11. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Fuel filter splash guard, if equipped
    Banjo fittings on both sides of the fuel filter. Contain the fuel with a shop towel. Properly dispose of the towel once the job is complete.

    Fuel filter


To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    New fuel filter. Make sure that the arrow is pointing in the correct direction of fuel flow.
    Band type clamp
    Banjo fittings to the filter with new sealing washers and torque to 16 ft. lbs. (21 Nm)
    Fuel filter splash guard, if equipped

  3. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.
