Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    There is a spacer behind the brake backing plate.



    Rear wheels
     
    Caliper and back off the adjuster on the parking brake shoes.
     
    Parking brake return spring and lever
     
    Rotor retaining screws and the rotor
     
    Four hub retaining nuts
     
    Wheel speed sensor
     
    Hub and bearing

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Hub assembly, backing plate and spacer and torque the nuts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm)
     
    Brake rotor. Apply low strength Loctite® to the rotor retaining screw.
     
    Parking brake lever and return spring
     
    Speed sensor
     
    Caliper and retaining bolts. Use Loctite® applied.
     

  2.  
  3. Screw in the brake shoe adjusting screw until the rotor cannot turn. Back off the screw until the rotor can rotate freely.
  4.  
  5. Install the wheels.
  6.  
  7. Pump the brakes to position the caliper piston.
    CAUTION
    Do not attempt to move the vehicle until a firm pedal is obtained.
