AMC Coupes/Sedans/Wagons 1975-1988 Repair Information
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
Disconnect the two wire plug.
Remove the sensor from the exhaust manifold on the four cylinder, or the exhaust pipe on the six.
Clean the threads in the manifold or pipe.
Coat the threads of the replacement sensor with an electrically conductive antiseize compound. Do not use a conventional antiseize compound, which may electrically insulate the sensor.
Install the sensor. Installation torque is 25 ft.lb. for the four cylinder, 31 ft.lb. for the 6-cylinder.
Connect the sensor lead. Do not push the rubber boot into the sensor body more than
in. (12.7mm) above the base.
If the sensors' pigtail is broken, replace the sensor. The wires cannot be spliced or soldered.
