  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.
  5. Remove the transaxle assembly from the vehicle.
  6.
  7. Insert a clutch alignment tool. Use a feeler gauge and measure the clearance between the pressure plate spring fingers and the clutch alignment disc. There should be a maximum of 0.02 in. (0.6mm) of clearance for a new pressure plate with 0.03 in. (0.8mm) limit for a used pressure plate. If the height is more than the . service limit, replace the pressure plate.
  8.
  9. Remove the clutch alignment disc.
  10.
  11. Install a flywheel holder to aid in the removal of the pressure plate and clutch disc.
  12.
  13. Matchmark the flywheel and pressure plate for easy reassembly. Remove the pressure plate bolts in a crisscross pattern 2 turns at a time to prevent warping the plate.
  14.
  15. Remove the pressure plate, then the clutch disc with the alignment shaft.
  16.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure, while using the following torque values:

Flywheel mounting bolts: 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm) for 5-speed transaxles or 90 ft. lbs. (122 Nm) for 6-speed transaxles

Pressure plate bolts: 19 ft. lbs. (25 Nm)
