Hydraulic System Bleeding




NOTE
Use DOT 3 brake fluid in the clutch master and slave cylinders. Brake fluid will damage the vehicle's paint. Immediately clean up any spills.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Fit a flare or box end wrench onto the slave cylinder bleeder screw.
  4.  
  5. Attach a rubber tube to the slave cylinder bleeder screw and suspend it into a clear drain container partially filled with brake fluid.
  6.  
  7. Fill the clutch master cylinder with brake fluid.
  8.  
  9. Proceed as follows: Open the bleeder screw and press the clutch pedal to the floor.
    1. Open the bleeder screw and press the clutch pedal to the floor.
    2.

  11. Close the bleeder screw. Tighten to 70 inch lbs. (6 Nm). Be careful not to overtighten the screw.
  12.  
  13. Release the clutch pedal and recheck the reservoir fluid level. Top off if necessary.
  14.  
  15. Continue the above procedure until no more bubbles appear in the tube.
  16.  
  17. Top off the clutch master cylinder reservoir with brake fluid.
  18.  

2004-06 TL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Attach a hose to the bleeder screw, and suspend the hose in a container of brake fluid.
  4.  
  5. Make sure there is an adequate supply of fluid in the clutch master cylinder, then slowly pump the clutch pedal until no more bubbles appear at the bleeder hose.
  6.  
  7. It may be necessary to limit the movement of the release fork with a block of wood to remove all the air from the system.
  8.  
  9. Tighten the bleeder screw.
  10.  
  11. Refill the clutch master cylinder with fluid when done.
  12.  
  13. Confirm clutch operation, and check for leaking fluid.
  14.  

RSX & TSX Models
