Front Crankshaft Seal

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect negative cable at the battery.
  4.  
  5. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Drain the engine oil and properly dispose of it.
  6.  
  7. Be sure the crankshaft is at TDC on No. 1 cylinder by aligning the white mark on the crankshaft pulley with the pointer on the lower timing belt cover.
  8.  
  9. Remove or disconnect the following: Crankshaft pulleyCylinder head coverTiming belt coverTiming beltCrankshaft Speed Fluctuation (CKF) sensor (if equipped)Timing belt drive gear from the crankshaft

    Crankshaft pulley
     
    Cylinder head cover
     
    Timing belt cover
     
    Timing belt
     
    Crankshaft Speed Fluctuation (CKF) sensor (if equipped)
     
    Timing belt drive gear from the crankshaft
     

  10.  
  11. Using a suitable prytool, carefully remove the seal.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Apply a light coat of oil to the seal lip.
  2.  
  3. Position the seal, then using a seal driver, install the seal into the housing.
  4.  
  5. Install or connect the following: Timing belt drive gearTiming beltTiming belt coverCylinder head coverCKF sensor and tighten the attaching bolts to 96 inch lbs. (11 Nm) (if equipped)Crankshaft pulley

  6.  
  7. Lower the vehicle and check and fill the engine with oil as necessary.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable and enter the radio security code.
  10.  
  11. Run the engine and check for leaks.
  12.  
  13. Turn off engine and check the oil level. Top off the oil level if necessary.
  14.  

2004-06 TL & 2005-06 RL
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor A and B, timing belt, and timing belt drive pulley.
  4.  
  5. Remove the pulley end crankshaft oil seal.
  6.  
  7. Clean and dry the crankshaft oil seal housing.
  8.  
  9. Apply a light coat of multipurpose grease to the crankshaft and to the lip of the seal.
  10.  
  11. Using the seal driver 070AD-RCA0100, drive in the crankshaft oil seal until the driver bottoms against the oil pump.

  13. When the seal is in place, clean any excess grease off the crankshaft, and check that the oil seal lip is not distorted.
  14.  
  15. Install the timing belt drive pulley, CKP sensor A and B, and timing belt.
  16.  

CL, Integra, NSX, RSX, TSX, 2001-04 RL & 2001-03 TL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect negative cable at the battery.
  4.  
  5. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Drain the engine oil and properly dispose of it.
  6.  
  7. Be sure the crankshaft is at TDC on No. 1 cylinder by aligning the white mark on the crankshaft pulley with the pointer on the lower timing belt cover.
  8.  
  9. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Crankshaft pulley
     
    Cylinder head cover
     
    Timing belt cover
     
    Timing belt
     
    Crankshaft Speed Fluctuation (CKF) sensor (if equipped)
     
    Timing belt drive gear from the crankshaft
     

  10.  
  11. Using a suitable prytool, carefully remove the seal.
  12.  

To install:

  7. Lower the vehicle and check and fill the engine with oil as necessary.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable and enter the radio security code.
  10.  
  11. Run the engine and check for leaks.
  12.  
  13. Turn off engine and check the oil level. Top off the oil level if necessary.
