Removal & Installation



1.8L (B18b1, B18c1 And B18c5) Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Drain the cooling system into a sealable container.
  6.  
  7. Remove the strut brace (if equipped).
  8.  
  9. Properly relieve the fuel pressure.
  10.  
  11. Remove or disconnect the following: Intake air ductFuel feed and return hosesPCV hoseBrake booster vacuum hoseThrottle cable from the throttle body, take great care not to kink or damage the cable

    Intake air duct
     
    Fuel feed and return hoses
     
    PCV hose
     
    Brake booster vacuum hose
     
    Throttle cable from the throttle body, take great care not to kink or damage the cable
     

  12.  
  13. Label and disconnect all the emission vacuum hoses from the intake manifold.
  14.  
  15. Label and disconnect the wiring connected to the intake manifold. Disconnect sensors as needed; release wiring retainers and clips.
  16.  
  17. Remove or disconnect the following: Water bypass hoses from the manifoldAttaching the intake manifold to the support bracketNuts attaching the intake manifold to the cylinder head in a crisscross pattern, beginning from the center and moving out to both endsIntake manifold

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure, while using the following torque values: Intake manifold nuts:17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm)Manifold support bracket bolts: 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm)Strut brace nuts: 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm)

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine coolant into a sealable container.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following: Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor electrical connectorVacuum hose and breather pipe and the air intake ductIntake manifold coverThrottle and cruise control cables by loosening the locknuts, then slipping the cable ends out of the accelerator linkage.

    Throttle and cruise control cables by loosening the locknuts, then slipping the cable ends out of the accelerator linkage.

NOTE
Do not bend the cables during removal. Always replace any throttle or cruise control cables that get kinked during removal.



Evaporative emission (EVAP) canister hose and brake booster vacuum hose
 
Idle Air Control (IAC) valve connectors
 
Throttle Position (TP) sensor connector
 
Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor connector
 
Necessary engine wire harness connectors and wire harness clamps from the intake manifold
 
Bolt securing the harness holder and remove the harness clamps
 
Water bypass hoses, then plug them
 
Harness clamp and harness connector from the intake manifold bracket
 
Intake manifold bracket
 
A/T vacuum hose
 
Retainer and intake manifold
 

To install:

  1. Clean the mounting surfaces.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following: New gasketIntake manifold. Tighten the bolts, in a criss-cross pattern beginning with the inner bolt, to 16 ft. lbs.     New gasket
     
    Intake manifold. Tighten the bolts, in a criss-cross pattern beginning with the inner bolt, to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).

    Harness clamp and connector to the intake manifold bracket
     
    Water bypass hoses
     
    Bolt securing the harness holder and tighten to 104 inch lbs. (12 Nm)

    EVAP canister hose and brake booster vacuum hose
     
    Throttle and cruise control cables
     
    Intake manifold cover
     
    Intake air duct
     
    IAT sensor connector, vacuum hose and breather pipe
     

  4.  
  5. Refill the cooling system.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable, start the engine, and check for leaks.
  8.  

2001-03 TL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Drain the cooling system.
  6.  
  7. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  8.  
  9. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Intake air duct
     
    Strut brace (if equipped)
     
    Intake manifold cover
     
    Water bypass hose
     
    Traction Control System (TCS) actuator (if equipped)
     
    Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister hose
     
    Throttle and cruise control cables
     
    Brake booster vacuum hose
     
    Upper intake manifold cover
     
    Intake manifold nuts and bolts in a crisscross pattern, beginning from the center and moving out
     

  10.  
  11. Verify that all vacuum lines are disconnected and remove the intake manifold and throttle body as a unit.
  12.  
  13. Inspect the manifold for cracks, flatness, or other damage; replace any damaged parts. If the intake manifold is to be replaced, transfer all the necessary components to the new manifold.
  14.  

To install:



Intake fasteners:16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)
 
Upper intake manifold cover fasteners: 108 inch lbs. (12 Nm)
 
TCS actuator bolts: 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)
 
Strut brace bolts: 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)
 

2001-04 RL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Drain the cooling system.
  6.  
  7. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  8.  
  9. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Intake air duct
     
    Strut brace (if equipped)
     
    Intake manifold cover
     
    Water bypass hose
     
    Traction Control System (TCS) actuator (if equipped)
     
    Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister hose
     
    Throttle and cruise control cables
     
    Brake booster vacuum hose
     
    Upper intake manifold cover
     
    Intake manifold nuts and bolts in a crisscross pattern, beginning from the center and moving out
     

  10.  
  11. Verify that all vacuum lines are disconnected and remove the intake manifold and throttle body as a unit.
  12.  
  13. Inspect the manifold for cracks, flatness, or other damage; replace any damaged parts. If the intake manifold is to be replaced, transfer all the necessary components to the new manifold.

To install:



Intake fasteners:16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)
 
Upper intake manifold cover fasteners: 108 inch lbs. (12 Nm)
 
TCS actuator bolts: 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)
 
Strut brace bolts: 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)
 

2004-06 TL & 2005- 06 RL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the intake manifold cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the air intake duct.
  6.  
  7. Remove the engine mount control solenoid valve, Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hose, brake booster vacuum hose, and vacuum hose.
  8.  
  9. Remove the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge hose and water bypass hoses, then plug the water bypass hoses.
  10.  
  11. Remove the following engine wire harness connectors and wire harness clamps from the intake manifold:

    Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor connector
     
    Throttle actuator connector
     
    Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor connector
     
    Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge valve connector
     
    Intake Manifold Tuning (IMT) valve connector
     

  12.  
  13. Remove the upper cover mounting bolts and nuts sequentially in two or three steps.

  15. Remove the intake manifold mounting bolts and nuts sequentially in two or three steps.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Install a new gasket and the intake manifold. Tighten the bolts and nuts sequentially in two or three steps to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).

  3. Install a new gasket and the upper cover. Tighten the bolts and nuts sequentially in two or three steps to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the engine wire harness connectors and wire harness clamps to the intake manifold that where removed earlier.
  6.  
  7. Install the EVAP canister purge hose and water bypass hoses.
  8.  
  9. Install the engine mount control solenoid valve, PCV hose, brake booster vacuum hose, and vacuum hose.
  10.  
  11. Install the intake air duct.
  12.  
  13. After installation, check that all tubes, hoses, and connectors are installed correctly.
  14.  
  15. Install the intake manifold cover.
  16.  
  17. Refill the radiator with engine coolant, then bleed air from the cooling system with the heater valve open.
  18.  

3.0L Engine

  8.  
  9. Properly relieve the fuel pressure.
  10.  
  11. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Intake air duct
     
    Fuel feed and return hoses
     
    PCV hose
     
    Brake booster vacuum hose
     
    Throttle cable from the throttle body, take great care not to kink or damage the cable
     

  12.  
  13. Label and disconnect all the emission vacuum hoses from the intake manifold.
  14.

  11. Verify that all vacuum lines are disconnected and remove the intake manifold and throttle body as a unit.

RSX Models
K20a2 Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system into a sealable container.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Intake manifold cover
     
    Evaporative emission (EVAP) canister hose and brake booster vacuum hose
     
    Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor connector
     
    Breather hose
     
    Air cleaner housing
     
    Throttle cover. Fully open the throttle link and cruise control link by hand, then remove the throttle cable and cruise control cable from the links.
     
    Locknut, loosen only, then the cables from the bracket
     
    Water bypass hoses, then plug them
     

  6.  
  7. Relieve the fuel system pressure.

    Fuel feed hose
     
    Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hose, harness holder mounting bolt and harness clamp mounting bolt
     
    Idle Air Control (IAC) valve connector
     
    Throttle Position (TP) sensor connector
     
    Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor connector
     
    Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge valve connector
     
    Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) valve position sensor connector
     
    2 bolts securing the intake manifold and brackets
     
    Intake manifold mounting bolts and nuts
     
    2 stud bolts and the intake manifold. Discard the gasket(s).
     

  8.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Intake manifold with a new gasket, then tighten the 2 stud bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm). Tighten the intake manifold bolts/nuts in a criss- cross pattern, beginning with the inner bolt to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
     
    2 bolts securing the intake manifold brackets and tighten to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)
     
    PCV hose, harness holder mounting bolt and harness clamp mounting bolt. Tighten the bolts to 104 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
     
    Fuel feed hose
     
    Water bypass hoses
     
    Throttle and cruise control cables. Adjust the cables.
     
    Air cleaner housing
     
    IAT sensor connector
     
    Breather hose
     
    EVAP canister hose, brake booster vacuum hose and vacuum hoses
     
    Intake manifold cover and tighten to 104 inch lbs. (10 Nm)
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Fill the engine with coolant, then start the engine and check for leaks.

K20a3 Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system into a sealable container.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Intake manifold cover
     
    Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor connector
     
    Breather hose
     
    Air cleaner housing
     
    Throttle cover. Fully open the throttle link and cruise control link by hand, then remove the throttle cable and cruise control cable from the links
     
    Locknut, loosen only, then the cables from the bracket
     
    Evaporative emission (EVAP) canister hose and brake booster vacuum hose
     
    Water bypass hoses, then plug them
     
    Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) valve actuator control solenoid valve connector
     
    Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hose
     
    IMRC valve control solenoid valve mounting bolt
     
    Front bumper
     
    Hood switch connector
     
    A/C line bracket mounting bolt
     
    Intake airduct mounting bolt and harness clamps
     
    Upper bracket and cushion mounting bolts, then the bulkhead
     
    Idle Air Control (IAC) valve connector
     
    Throttle Position (TP) sensor connector
     
    Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor connector
     
    Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge valve connector
     
    Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) valve position sensor connector
     
    Intake manifold and O- rings
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Intake manifold, with new O- rings. Tighten the bolts/nuts in a criss- cross pattern in 2 or 3 steps to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
     
    Bulkhead, and upper bracket and cushion mounting bolts
     
    Hood switch connector
     
    A/C line bracket mounting bolt and tighten to 104 inch lbs. (10 Nm)
     
    Intake airduct mounting bolt and tighten to 104 inch lbs. (10 Nm)
     
    Harness clamps
     
    Front bumper
     
    IMRC valve actuator control solenoid valve connector
     
    PCV hose and IMRC valve actuator control solenoid valve mounting bolt
     
    Water bypass hoses
     
    EVAP canister hose and brake booster vacuum hose
     
    Throttle and cruise control cables. Adjust the cables.
     
    Air cleaner housing
     
    IAT sensor connector
     
    Breather hose
     
    Intake manifold cover and tighten to 104 inch lbs. (10 Nm)
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Fill the engine with coolant, then start the engine and check for leaks.

    Intake manifold cover
     
    Intake air duct
     
    IAT sensor connector, vacuum hose and breather pipe
     

  4.  
  5. Refill the cooling system.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable, start the engine, and check for leaks.
