2001-03 TL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Drain the differential oil.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Accessory drive belts
     
    Power steering pump without disconnecting the lines
     
    Exhaust manifold covers
     
    Front wheels
     
    Splash shield
     
    Strut forks
     
    Lower ball joints
     
    Halfshafts from the differential
     
    Intermediate shaft
     
    Vehicle speed/power steering speed sensor without disconnecting the hoses
     
    Lower plate from the rear beam
     
    A/C compressor without disconnecting the lines
     

  8.  
  9. Attach a chain hoist to the engine.
    NOTE
    Do not lose the dowel pins from the oil pan



    Left engine mount bracket
     
    Right engine mount bracket
     
    Right engine mount
     
    36mm sealing bolt on the transaxle. Ensure that the transaxle is in 1st gear (manual) or P (automatic).
     
    Extension shaft from the differential with an extension shaft puller
     
    Differential mounting bolts and the 26mm shim, then remove the differential
     
    Rear engine stiffener
     
    Flywheel cover or the torque converter covers
     
    Oil pan
     

  10.  

To install:

  1. Apply liquid gasket to the cylinder block. Be sure that the mating surfaces are clean and dry before installing the liquid gasket. Do not apply liquid gasket to the O-ring grooves.

  3. Install or connect the following:
    NOTE
    Be sure the dowel pins are still in place.


    NOTE
    Be sure to install the shim in the original location



    Oil pan with new O-rings and torque the bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)
     



    Flywheel or torque converter cover and torque the bolts to 108 inch lbs. (12 Nm)
     
    Rear engine stiffener and tighten the bolt attaching the engine stiffener to the transaxle first, to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm), then tighten the bolts to the engine block to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)
     
    Differential to the engine and torque the bolts to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm)
     



    Air conditioning compressor to the engine block and tighten the mounting bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)
     
    New set ring to the extension shaft-Using an extension shaft installer tool, install the shaft to the differential.

  4.  
  5. Fill the secondary gear with super high temperature grease. Applying sealer to the threads of the 36mm sealing bolt, then install the bolt and tighten it to 58 ft. lbs. (78 Nm).

    Right engine mount and torque the bolts to 28 ft. lbs. (38 Nm)
     
    Right engine mount bracket and torque the nut and bolts to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm)
     
    Left engine mount bracket and torque the bolts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm)
     
    A/C compressor and torque the bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)
     
    Lower plate and torque the bolts to 28 ft. lbs. (38 Nm)
     
    Vehicle speed/power steering speed sensor and torque the bolts to 108 inch lbs. (12 Nm)
     
    Intermediate shaft and the halfshafts
     
    Lower ball joints and tighten the nuts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm)
     
    Strut forks and torque the bolts to 51 ft. lbs. (69 Nm)
     
    Engine splash shield and tighten the bolts to 84 inch lbs. (9.5 Nm)
     
    Front wheels
     
    Exhaust manifold covers and torque the bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)
     
    Power steering pump and torque the bolt to 33 ft. lbs. (44 Nm) and the nut to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)
     
    Accessory drive belts
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  6.  
  7. Fill the engine with oil.
  8.  
  9. Fill the differential with oil.
  10.  
  11. Run the engine and check for leaks.
  12.  
  13. Check the front wheel alignment.
  14.  

2001-04 RL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Drain the differential oil.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Accessory drive belts
     
    Power steering pump without disconnecting the lines
     
    Exhaust manifold covers
     
    Front wheels
     
    Splash shield
     
    Strut forks
     
    Lower ball joints
     
    Halfshafts from the differential
     
    Intermediate shaft
     
    Vehicle speed/power steering speed sensor without disconnecting the hoses
     
    Lower plate from the rear beam
     
    A/C compressor without disconnecting the lines
     

  8.  
  9. Attach a chain hoist to the engine.
    NOTE
    Do not lose the dowel pins from the oil pan

To install:

  6.  
  7. Fill the engine with oil.
  8.  
  9. Fill the differential with oil.
  10.  
  11. Run the engine and check for leaks.
  12.  
  13. Check the front wheel alignment.
  14.  

2004-06 TL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove the splash shield.
  6.  
  7. Remove the under cover.
  8.  
  9. Remove exhaust pipe A.
  10.  
  11. Remove the torque converter cover and the two bolts retaining the transmission.
  12.  
  13. Remove the bolts retaining the oil pan.
  14.  
  15. Using a flat blade screwdriver, separate the oil pan from the block in the places shown.
  16.  
  17. Remove the oil pan.
  18.  

To install:

  1. Remove any old liquid gasket from the oil pan mating surfaces, bolts, and bolt holes.
  2.  
  3. Clean and dry the oil pan mating surfaces.
  4.  
  5. Apply liquid gasket, P/N 08717-0004, 08718-0001, 08718-0003, or 08718-0009, evenly to the oil pan mating surface of the engine block.
    NOTE
    Do not install the parts if 4 minutes or more have elapsed since applying liquid gasket. Instead, re-apply liquid gasket after removing the old residue.

  6.  
  7. Install the oil pan on the engine block. Tighten the bolts in two or three steps. In the final step, tighten all bolts, in sequence, to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
    NOTE
    After assembly, wait at least 30 minutes before filling the engine with oil.

  8.  
  9. Tighten the two bolts retaining the transmission to 28 ft. lbs. (38 Nm), then install the torque converter cover.
  10.  
  11. Install the remaining components in the reverse order of removal, after 30 minutes has elapsed, fill the engine with new oil.

2005-06 RL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove the splash shield.
  6.  
  7. Remove the under cover.
  8.  
  9. Remove exhaust pipe A.
  10.  
  11. Remove the rear warm up three way catalytic converter bracket.
  12.  
  13. Remove the torque converter cover and the bolts retaining the transmission.
  14.  
  15. Remove the bolts retaining the oil pan.
  16.  
  17. Using a flat blade screwdriver, separate the oil pan from the block in the places shown.
  18.  
  19. Remove the oil pan.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Remove any old liquid gasket from the oil pan mating surfaces, bolts, and bolt holes.
  2.  
  3. Clean and dry the oil pan mating surfaces.
  4.  
  5. Apply liquid gasket, P/N 08717-0004, 08718-0001, 08718-0003, or 08718-0009, evenly to the oil pan mating surface of the engine block.
    NOTE
    Do not install the parts if 4 minutes or more have elapsed since applying liquid gasket. Instead, re-apply liquid gasket after removing the old residue.

  6.  
  7. Install the oil pan on the engine block. Tighten the bolts in two or three steps. In the final step, tighten all bolts, in sequence, to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).

  9. Tighten the bolts retaining the transmission to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm), then install the torque converter cover.
  10.  
  11. Remove the rear warm up three way catalytic converter bracket. Tighten to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)

  13. Install the remaining components in the reverse order of removal, after 30 minutes has elapsed, fill the engine with new oil.

Integra Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine oil.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Splash shield
     
    Heated Oxygen (HO 2 S) sensor connector
     
    Front exhaust pipe from the vehicle
     
    Center beam from the subframe
     

  8.  
  9. Loosen the oil pan bolts in a crisscross pattern. To remove the oil pan, lightly tap the corners of the oil pan with a rubber or plastic faced mallet.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Apply liquid gasket to the oil pan mating surface where the oil pump and the right side cover meet the engine block.

  3. Install or connect the following:
    CAUTION
    Excessive tightening can cause distortion of the oil pan gasket and oil leakage.



    Oil pan with a new gasket
     
    Oil pan nuts and bolts and torque them in sequence to 10 ft. lbs. (14 Nm)

    Oil drain plug with a new gasket and torque it to 33 ft. lbs. (44 Nm)
     
    Front exhaust pipe using new gaskets and locknuts and tighten the manifold nuts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm) and the others to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)
     
    HO 2 S sensor connector
     
    Lower splash shield
     

  4.  
  5. Fill the engine with oil.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable and enter the radio security code.
  8.  
  9. Run the engine and check for leaks.
  10.  
  11. Turn off engine and check the oil level. Top off the oil level if necessary.
  12.  

NSX Models
3.0L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine oil.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front exhaust pipe
     
    Oil pan mounting bolts
     
    Oil pan
     

  8.  

To install:

  1. Apply a bead of sealant to the oil pan flange and install the oil pan. Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown to 108 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the front exhaust pipe with new gaskets and torque the manifold nuts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm) and the catalytic converter nuts to 25 ft. lbs. (33 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Add the correct amount of engine oil to the crankcase.
  6.  
  7. Start the engine and check for leaks.

RSX Models
K20a2 & K20z1 Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine oil.
  6.  
  7. Attach a chain hoist to the engine.
  8.  
  9. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Lower ball joints
     
    Rear mount mounting bolts
     
    Front mount mounting bolts
     

  10.  
  11. Make alignment marks on the reference lines that align with the centers of the rear subframe mounting bolts.

    Front subframe
     
    Clutch cover and 2 bolts securing the transaxle
     
    Bolts/nuts securing the oil pan
     
    Oil pan by inserting a flat tip prytool where shown in the illustration and separate the oil pan from the block

To install:

  1. Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces, bolts and bolt holes. Apply liquid gasket part no. 08718-0009 evenly to the cylinder block mating surface of the oil pan and inner threads of the bolt holes.
    NOTE
    Make sure to install the oil pan within 5 minutes of applying the liquid gasket.

  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pan
     
    Oil pan mounting bolts. Tighten, in sequence, in 2 or 3 steps to 104 inch lbs. (12 Nm).

    Clutch cover. Tighten the bolts to 104 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
     
    2 bolts securing the transaxle and tighten to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm)
     
    Subframe. Align the reference lines on the subframe with the bolt head center, tighten the bolts to 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm).
     
    Front mounting bolt
     
    Rear mounting bolts
     
    Lower ball joints
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  4.  
  5. Wait 30 minutes, then fill the engine with oil. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  6.  

K20a3 Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine oil.
  6.  
  7. Attach a chain hoist to the engine.
  8.  
  9. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Lower ball joints
     
    Rear mount mounting bolts
     
    Front mount mounting bolts
     
    Automatic Transaxle Fluid (ATF) filter mounting bolt, if equipped with an automatic transaxle

  11. Make alignment marks on the reference lines that align with the centers of the rear subframe mounting bolts.

    Front subframe
     
    Bolts/nuts securing the oil pan
     
    Oil pan by driving an oil pan seal cutter between the oil pan and cylinder block, then cutting the oil pan seal by striking the side of the cutter to slide the cutter along the oil pan

To install:

  1. Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces, bolts and bolt holes. Apply liquid gasket part no. 08718-0009 evenly to the cylinder block mating surface of the oil pan and inner threads of the bolt holes.
    NOTE
    Make sure to install the oil pan within 5 minutes of applying the liquid gasket.

  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pan
     
    Oil pan mounting bolts. Tighten, in sequence, in 2 or 3 steps to 104 inch lbs. (12 Nm).

    Subframe. Align the reference lines on the subframe with the bolt head center, tighten the bolts to 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm).
     
    ATF filter mounting bolt
     
    Front mounting bolt
     
    Rear mounting bolts
     
    Lower ball joints
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  4.  
  5. Wait 30 minutes, then fill the engine with oil. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  6.  

TSX Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Engine oil
     
    Front tire and wheel assemblies
     
    Splash shield
     
    Stabilizer links
     
    Right side damper fork
     
    Right side lower ball joint
     
    Right side halfshaft. Coat all machined surfaces with clean engine oil and secure a plastic bag over the end of the halfshaft.
     

  4.  
  5. From the engine compartment, remove the front mount stop and front mount bolt

    Rear mount stop and rear mount bolt
     
    Ground cable and upper bracket
     
    Bolt holding the side engine mount bracket and attach Engine Hanger Plate EQS00BRSX0, or equivalent.

  6.  
  7. Use a jack to lift the engine 1.2-2.4 in. (30-60mm).

    Stiffener
     
    Oil pan bolts and nuts

  9. Hammer a seal cutter between the engine block and oil pan to break the seal.
  10.  
  11. Remove the oil pan.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Clean the oil pan flange and engine block mounting surface.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Sealant to the oil pan flange. Be sure to apply sealant toward the inside of the bolt holes.
     
    Oil pan on the engine. Tighten the bolts in sequence, in 2 or 3 steps, to 104 inch lbs. (12 Nm).

    Stiffener. Torque the retaining bolts to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm)

  5. Remove the engine hanger tool and tighten the side engine mount bracket bolt to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
    WARNING
    Operating the engine without the proper amount and type of engine oil will result in severe engine damage.



    Upper bracket and ground cable
     
    New set ring on the end of the driveshaft, then install the driveshaft. Make sure each ring clicks into plate in the differential.
     
    Right side lower ball joint
     
    Right side damper fork
     
    Stabilizer links
     
    Splash shield
     
    Tire and wheel assemblies
     
    Front mount bolt and front mount stop
     
    Rear mount bolt and rear mount stop
     

  6.  
  7. After 30 minutes, fill the engine with the correct amount of oil.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  
  11. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  12.
