  10.
  11. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
Make sure the No. 1 piston TDC marks on the VTC actuator and exhaust camshaft are aligned.

    Negative battery cable

    Front tires and wheels

    Splash shield

    Drive belt

    Cylinder head cover

    Crankshaft pulley

    Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor connector

Variable Valve Timing Control (VTC) oil control solenoid valve connector

    VTC oil control solenoid valve

  12.
  13. Support the engine with a suitable jack with a wooden block under the oil pan.

    Ground cable and upper bracket

    Side engine mount bracket

    Chain cover/case

  14.
  15. Loosely install the crankshaft pulley. Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise to compress the auto-tensioner.
  16.
  17. Align the holes on the lock (A) and the auto-tensioner (B), then place a 1.5mm pin into the holes. Turn the crankshaft clockwise to secure the pin.

  19. Remove or disconnect the following:
    WARNING
Do not place the timing chain near any magnetic fields.

    Auto-tensioner

Timing chain guide B (top guide)

Timing chain guide A and tensioner arm

    Timing chain

  20.

To install:

  1. Set the crankshaft to TDC. Align the TDC mark (A) on the crankshaft sprocket with the pointer (B) on the cylinder block.

  4.
  5. Install or connect the following:

Timing chain the crankshaft sprocket with the colored link of the chain aligned with the mark on the crank sprocket

Timing chain on the VTC actuator and exhaust camshaft sprocket with the punch marks aligned with the center of the 2 colored links

Timing chain guide A and tensioner arm. Tighten the guide bolts to 104 inch lbs. (12 Nm) and the tensioner arm retainer to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).

Auto-tensioner and tighten the bolts to 104 inch lbs. (12 Nm)

Timing chain guide B and tighten the retainers to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)

  6.
  7. Remove the pin from the auto-tensioner.
  8.
  9. Inspect the chain cover seal for damage and replace if necessary. Clean and dry the chain cover mating surfaces.
  10.
  11. Install or connect the following:
    NOTE
Make sure to install the components within 5 minutes of applying the sealer.

    NOTE
When installing the chain case, do not slide the bottom surface on the oil pan mounting surface.

Liquid gasket, P/N 08718-0009 evenly to the cylinder block mating surface of the timing chain cover and the inner threads of the holes

Liquid gasket to the cylinder block upper surface contact areas on the chain cover and the oil pan mating surface of the chain cover in the inner threads of the holes

New O-ring the timing chain cover. Set the edge of the cover to the edge of the oil pan, then install the cover on the engine block. Tighten the retainers to 104 inch lbs. (12 Nm).

Side engine mounting bracket and tighten the retainers to 33 ft. lbs. (44 Nm)
