Removal & Installation



2001-03 TL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Support the lower suspension arm with a jack.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel(s)
     
    Brake hose from the strut
     
    Strut fork
     
    Upper strut mounting nuts
     
    Strut from the vehicle
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install the strut and loosely install the mounting nuts
  2.  
  3. Install the strut fork, do not tighten the bolts at this time
    NOTE
    All suspension nuts and bolts should be tightened with the vehicle on the ground, or with a floor jack supporting the vehicle's weight.

  4.  
  5. Tighten the pinch bolt to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Tighten the lower strut fork bolt to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the brake hose to the strut fork and tighten the bolt to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the wheels.
  12.  
  13. Tighten the upper strut nuts to 37 ft. lbs. 50 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Measure and adjust the wheel alignment.
  16.  

2001-04 RL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Support the lower suspension arm with a jack.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel(s)
     
    Brake hose from the strut
     
    Strut fork
     
    Upper strut mounting nuts
     
    Strut from the vehicle
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install the strut and loosely install the mounting nuts
  2.  
  3. Install the strut fork, do not tighten the bolts at this time
    NOTE
    All suspension nuts and bolts should be tightened with the vehicle on the ground, or with a floor jack supporting the vehicle's weight.

  4.  
  5. Tighten the pinch bolt to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Tighten the lower strut fork bolt to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the brake hose to the strut fork and tighten the bolt to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the wheels.
  12.  
  13. Tighten the upper strut nuts to 28 ft. lbs. (38 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Measure and adjust the wheel alignment.
  16.  

2004-06 TL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the right side engine compartment cover, right rear engine compartment cover and left rear engine compartment cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the strut tower bar with the vehicle on the ground.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front wheel.
  8.  
  9. Remove the damper fork from the damper and lower arm.
  10.  
  11. Remove the flange nuts from the top of the damper, then remove the damper assembly.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Position the damper assembly in the body with the aligning tab (B) facing inside, then loosely install the flange nuts.

  3. Install the damper fork (A) over the driveshaft and onto the lower arm. Install the front damper in the damper fork so the aligning tab (B) is aligned with the slot (C) in the damper fork. Refer to the illustration for component locations and torque specifications.

  5. Loosely install the damper pinch bolt into the damper fork.
  6.  
  7. Install the flange bolt to the damper fork and lower arm, then lightly tighten the new damper fork mounting nut.
    NOTE
    Use a new damper fork mounting nut on reassembly.

  8.  
  9. Place the floor jack under the lower arm, and raise the suspension to load it with the vehicle's weight.
  10.  
  11. Tighten the flange nuts on the top of the damper to the torque specified in the accompanying illustration.
  12.  
  13. Tighten the damper pinch bolts to the torque specified in the accompanying illustration.
  14.  
  15. Tighten the flange nut on the damper fork to the torque specified in the accompanying illustration.
  16.  
  17. Install the strut tower bar with the vehicle on the ground.
  18.  
  19. Install the engine compartment covers.
  20.  
  21. Install the front wheel.

2005-06 RL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove covers from the engine compartment cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the strut tower bar with the vehicle on the ground.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front wheel.
  8.  
  9. Remove the damper fork from the damper and lower arm.
  10.  
  11. Remove the flange nuts from the top of the damper, then remove the damper assembly.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Position the damper assembly in the body with the aligning tab (B) facing inside, then loosely install the flange nuts.
  2.  
  3. Loosely install the damper pinch bolt into the damper fork.
  4.  
  5. Install the flange bolt to the damper fork and lower arm, then lightly tighten the new damper fork mounting nut.
    NOTE
    Use a new damper fork mounting nut on reassembly.

  6.  
  7. Place the floor jack under the lower arm, and raise the suspension to load it with the vehicle's weight.
  8.  
  9. Tighten the flange nuts on the top of the damper to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm) on the 8 mm nuts and 42 ft. lbs. (55 Nm) on the 10 mm nuts.
  10.  
  11. Tighten the damper pinch bolts to the torque specified in the accompanying illustration.
  12.  
  13. Tighten the flange nut on the damper fork to the torque specified in the accompanying illustration.
  14.  
  15. Install the strut tower bar with the vehicle on the ground.
  16.  
  17. Install the engine compartment covers.
  18.  
  19. Install the front wheel.
  20.  

CL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Support the lower suspension arm with a jack.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel(s)
     
    Brake hose from the strut
     
    Strut fork
     
    Upper strut mounting nuts
     
    Strut from the vehicle
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install the strut and loosely install the mounting nuts
  2.  
  3. Install the strut fork, do not tighten the bolts at this time
    NOTE
    All suspension nuts and bolts should be tightened with the vehicle on the ground, or with a floor jack supporting the vehicle's weight.

  4.  
  5. Tighten the pinch bolt to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Tighten the lower strut fork bolt to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the brake hose to the strut fork and tighten the bolt to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the wheels.
  12.  
  13. Tighten the upper strut nuts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm)
  14.  
  15. Measure and adjust the wheel alignment.
  16.  

Integra Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Support the lower suspension arm with a jack.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel(s)
     
    Brake hose from the strut
     
    Strut fork
     
    Upper strut mounting nuts
     
    Strut from the vehicle

  1. Install the strut and loosely install the mounting nuts

  5. Tighten the pinch bolt to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm) for all models except Integra. For Integra, tighten to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).

  7. Tighten the lower strut fork bolt to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the brake hose to the strut fork and tighten the bolt to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the wheels.
  12.  
  13. Tighten the upper strut nuts to 28 ft. lbs. (38 Nm) (except Integra and 3.2 models 37 ft. lbs. [50 Nm])
  14.  
  15. Measure and adjust the wheel alignment.
  16.  

NSX Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel(s)
     
    Brake hose from the strut
     
    Lower strut mounting bolt
     
    Upper strut mounting nuts
     
    Strut from the vehicle
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Strut to the vehicle and loosely install the lower mounting bolt
     
    New upper mounting nuts hand tight
     
    Brake hose and torque the bolt to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)
     
    Wheel(s)
     

  2.  
  3. Lower the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Torque the upper mounting nuts to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm) and the lower mounting bolt to 69 ft. lbs. (93 Nm).
  6.  

RSX Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Support the lower suspension arm with a jack.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel(s)
     
    Brake hose from the strut
     
    Strut fork
     
    Upper strut mounting nuts
     
    Strut from the vehicle
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install the strut and loosely install the mounting nuts
  2.  
  3. Install the strut fork, do not tighten the bolts at this time
    NOTE
    All suspension nuts and bolts should be tightened with the vehicle on the ground, or with a floor jack supporting the vehicle's weight.

  4.  
  5. Tighten the pinch bolt to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Tighten the lower strut fork bolt to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the brake hose to the strut fork and tighten the bolt to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the wheels.
  12.  
  13. Tighten the upper strut nuts to 28 ft. lbs. (38 Nm) (except 3.2 models 37 ft. lbs. [50 Nm])
  14.  
  15. Measure and adjust the wheel alignment.
  16.  

TSX Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheels
     
    Damper fork bolts, then the damper fork from the damper and lower arm

    2 8mm flange nuts and 3 10mm flange nuts

To install:


NOTE
Use new self-locking bolts when installing the struts and assembling the damper forks.

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Strut into the vehicle with the aligning tab facing inside, if equipped. Hand-tighten the mounting nuts.
     
    Strut into the damper fork. The alignment mark on the strut tube fits into the slot on the damper fork.
     
    Pinch bolt and damper fork bolt/nut. Only hand-tighten these bolts.
     
    Front wheels and lower the vehicle.
     

  2.  
  3. With all 4 of the vehicle's wheels on the ground, tighten the damper fork nut to 47 ft. lbs. (65 Nm) while holding the damper fork bolt. Tighten the damper fork pinch bolt to 32 ft. lbs. (44 Nm). Tighten the damper assembly 8mm bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm) and the 10mm bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Tighten the wheel nuts to 80 ft. lbs. (110 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Check and adjust the vehicle's front end alignment.
  8.  

Except NSX & TSX
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Support the lower suspension arm with a jack.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following: Wheel(s)Brake hose from the strutStrut forkUpper strut mounting nutsStrut from the vehicle

    Brake hose from the strut
     
    Strut fork
     
    Upper strut mounting nuts
     
    Strut from the vehicle
