Adjustment



The front and rear wheel bearings are not adjustable or repairable and should be replaced if found defective.

Removal & Installation



2001-03 TL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel
     
    Axle nut
     
    Wheel sensor and wire brackets from the knuckle
     
    Brake caliper from the knuckle
     
    Brake rotor from the knuckle

    Tie rod from the knuckle
     
    Lower control arm from the knuckle
     
    Upper arm from the knuckle

  7. Clamp the knuckle in a vise and secure a slide hammer to the wheel studs to separate the hub from the knuckle.
  8.  
  9. Remove the splash guard.
  10.  
  11. Remove the snapring from the knuckle.
  12.  
  13. Support the knuckle and press the bearing out towards the wheel side.
  14.  
  15. If the inner bearing race stayed on the hub, use a puller to remove it.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Press a new inner race on the hub.
  2.  
  3. Press a new bearing into the knuckle.
  4.  
  5. Install the outer snapring.
  6.  
  7. Install the splash guard and torque the bolts to 4 ft. lbs. (4.9 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Properly support the knuckle and press the hub into the bearing.
    CAUTION
    Do not press on the wheel studs or they will press out of the hub.

  10.  
  11. Install or connect the following:

    Knuckle/hub assembly onto the halfshaft
     
    Lower ball joint and torque the nut to 51-58 ft. lbs. (69-78 Nm)
     
    Upper ball joint and torque the nut to 29-35 ft. lbs. (40-48 Nm)
     
    Tie rod end and torque the nut to 36-43 ft. lbs. (50-60 Nm)
     
    Brake rotor and torque the bolts to 84 inch lbs. (9.5 Nm)
     
    Brake caliper and torque the bolts to 80 ft. lbs. (108 Nm)
     
    Brake hose brackets and torque the bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)
     
    Wheel sensor and torque the bolts to 84 inch lbs. (9.5 Nm)
     
    Wheel sensor wire brackets and torque the bolts to 84 inch lbs. (9.5 Nm)
     
    New axle nut and torque it to 181 ft. lbs. (245 Nm)

2001-04 RL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel
     
    Axle nut
     
    Wheel sensor and wire brackets from the knuckle
     
    Brake caliper from the knuckle
     
    Brake rotor from the knuckle
     
    Tie rod from the knuckle
     
    Lower control arm from the knuckle
     
    Upper arm from the knuckle
     
    Knuckle/hub assembly from the halfshaft

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.

  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel
     
    Axle nut
     
    Wheel sensor and wire brackets from the knuckle
     
    Brake caliper from the knuckle
     
    Brake rotor from the knuckle
     
    Tie rod from the knuckle
     
    Lower control arm from the knuckle
     
    Upper arm from the knuckle
     
    Knuckle/hub assembly from the halfshaft
     

  6.

2005-06 RL Models

NOTE
The front wheel bearings on these vehicles are part of the wheel hub and are not serviceable. If the bearing is bad the wheel hub must be replaced.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the brake hose mounting bracket.
  6.  
  7. Remove the brake caliper bracket mounting bolts and caliper assembly from the knuckle. To prevent damage to the caliper assembly or brake hose, use a short piece of wire to hang the caliper assembly from the undercarriage. Do not twist the brake hose with force.
  8.  
  9. Remove the wheel sensor and o-ring from the knuckle. Do not disconnect the wheel sensor connector. use a new O-ring during installation.
  10.  
  11. Remove the spindle nut.
  12.  
  13. Remove the brake rotor.
  14.  
  15. Remove the cotter pin from the tie-rod end ball joint, then loosen the nut.
  16.  
  17. Remove the hub bearing unit mounting bolts.
  18.  
  19. Remove the hub bearing unit by tapping the driveshaft end with plastic hammer while drawing the hub bearing unit outward.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the mounting bolts to 72 ft. lbs. (93 Nm).

CL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.

  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel
     
    Axle nut
     
    Wheel sensor and wire brackets from the knuckle
     
    Brake caliper from the knuckle
     
    Brake rotor from the knuckle
     
    Tie rod from the knuckle
     
    Lower control arm from the knuckle
     
    Upper arm from the knuckle
     
    Knuckle/hub assembly from the halfshaft
     

  6.  
  7. Clamp the knuckle in a vise and secure a slide hammer to the wheel studs to separate the hub from the knuckle.
  8.  
  9. Remove the splash guard.

  13. Support the knuckle and press the bearing out towards the wheel side.

    Front wheels
     
    Axle nut
     
    Brake hose mounting bolts
     
    Brake caliper bolts and remove the caliper from the knuckle
     
    Disc brake rotor
     
    Wheel sensor wire bracket
     
    Wheel sensor from the knuckle
     
    Lower ball joint
     
    Upper ball joint
     

  6.  
  7. Pull the knuckle outward and remove the halfshaft outboard joint from the knuckle using a plastic hammer, then remove the knuckle.
  8.  
  9. Place the knuckle on a base. Insert a disassembly tool into the hub, then using a press, remove the hub from the knuckle.
  10.  
  11. Remove the circlip and the splash guard from the knuckle.
  12.  
  13. Place the knuckle on the disassembly base and install a driver to the bearing. Using a press, remove the bearing from the knuckle.
  14.  
  15. Press the wheel bearing inner race from the hub using the hub disassembly tool and a bearing separator.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Press a new inner race and wheel bearing into the knuckle with a suitable driver.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following: Splash guard and tighten the screws to 43 inch lbs. (5 Nm)Circlip securely in the knuckle groove

    Splash guard and tighten the screws to 43 inch lbs. (5 Nm)
     
    Circlip securely in the knuckle groove

  5. Use a suitable driver to press the knuckle onto the hub.
  6.  
  7. Install or connect the following: Knuckle/hub assembly onto the halfshaftLower ball joint to the knuckle and torque the nut to 36-43 ft. lbs.     New axle nut and tighten it to 134 ft. lbs. (181 Nm)
     
    Wheels

  9. Measure and adjust the wheel alignment.

Integra & RSX Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheels
     
    Axle nut
     
    Brake hose mounting bolts
     
    Brake caliper bolts and remove the caliper from the knuckle
     
    Disc brake rotor
     
    Wheel sensor wire bracket
     
    Wheel sensor from the knuckle
     
    Lower ball joint
     
    Upper ball joint
     

  6.  
  7. Pull the knuckle outward and remove the halfshaft outboard joint from the knuckle using a plastic hammer, then remove the knuckle.
  8.  
  9. Place the knuckle on a base. Insert a disassembly tool into the hub, then using a press, remove the hub from the knuckle.
  10.  
  11. Remove the circlip and the splash guard from the knuckle.
  12.  
  13. Place the knuckle on the disassembly base and install a driver to the bearing. Using a press, remove the bearing from the knuckle.
  14.  
  15. Press the wheel bearing inner race from the hub using the hub disassembly tool and a bearing separator.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Press a new inner race and wheel bearing into the knuckle with a suitable driver.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Splash guard and tighten the screws to 43 inch lbs. (5 Nm)
     
    Circlip securely in the knuckle groove
     

  4.  
  5. Use a suitable driver to press the knuckle onto the hub.
  6.  
  7. Install or connect the following:

    Knuckle/hub assembly onto the halfshaft
     
    Lower ball joint to the knuckle and torque the nut to 36-43 ft. lbs. (49-59 Nm)
     
    Tie rod and tighten the nut to 29-35 ft. lbs. (39-47 Nm)
     
    Upper ball joint and tighten the nut to 29-35 ft. lbs. (39-47 Nm)
     
    Wheel sensor and torque the bolts to 84 inch lbs. (9.5 Nm)
     
    Wheel sensor wire bracket and torque the bolts to 84 inch lbs. (9.5 Nm)
     
    Brake rotor and tighten the screws to 84 inch lbs. (10 Nm)
     
    Brake caliper and torque the bolts to 80 ft. lbs. (108 Nm)
     
    Brake hose mounting bolts and torque them to 84 inch lbs. (9.5 Nm)
     
    New axle nut and tighten it to 134 ft. lbs. (181 Nm)
     
    Wheels
     

  8.  
  9. Measure and adjust the wheel alignment.
  10.  

NSX
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following: WheelWheel sensor and wire brackets from the knuckleBrake caliper and hose brackets from the knuckleBrake rotor from the knuckleHub assembly from the knuckleSpindle nutPulser from the hub using a puller

    Hub assembly from the knuckle
     
    Spindle nut
     
    Pulser from the hub using a puller
     

  6.  
  7. Press the bearing from the hub.
  8.  
  9. Press the inner race from the hub.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Press a new inner race on the hub
  2.  
  3. Press a new bearing into the hub.
  4.  
  5. Install or connect the following: PulserNew spindle nut and torque it to 242 ft. lbs. (329 Nm)Hub assembly and torque the nuts to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm)Brake rotor and torque the bolts to 84 inch lbs. (9.5 Nm)Brake caliper and torque the bolts to 80 ft. lbs.(108 Nm)Brake hose brackets and torque the bolts to 16 ft. lbs.     Hub assembly and torque the nuts to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm)
     
    Brake rotor and torque the bolts to 84 inch lbs. (9.5 Nm)
     
    Brake caliper and torque the bolts to 80 ft. lbs.(108 Nm)
     
    Brake hose brackets and torque the bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)
     
    Wheel sensor and torque the bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)
     
    Wheel sensor wire brackets and torque the bolts to 84 inch lbs. (9.5 Nm)
     
    Wheel
     

  6.  
  7. Measure and adjust the wheel alignment.

NSX Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel
     
    Wheel sensor and wire brackets from the knuckle
     
    Brake caliper and hose brackets from the knuckle
     
    Brake rotor from the knuckle
     
    Hub assembly from the knuckle
     
    Spindle nut
     
    Pulser from the hub using a puller
     

  6.  
  7. Press the bearing from the hub.
  8.  
  9. Press the inner race from the hub.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Press a new inner race on the hub
  2.  
  3. Press a new bearing into the hub.
  4.  
  5. Install or connect the following:

    Pulser
     
    New spindle nut and torque it to 242 ft. lbs. (329 Nm)
     
    Hub assembly and torque the nuts to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm)
     
    Brake rotor and torque the bolts to 84 inch lbs. (9.5 Nm)
