Removal & Installation



2001-03 TL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Left rear wheel
     
    Tank drain bolt and drain the fuel into an approved container
     
    Pump and float wiring connectors located under the trunk floor
     
    Fuel hose and pipe covers from the inside of the quarter panel
     

  4.  
  5. Support the tank with a transmission jack, remove the straps and lower the tank out of the vehicle. If it sticks on the undercoating, carefully pry it free using a blunt or wooden instrument as a lever.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the fuel line by removing the banjo bolt or uncoupling the quick-connect fittings.
  8.  
  9. Remove the fuel pump mounting nuts. Remove the fuel pump from the fuel tank.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure, while using the following torque values:

    Fuel pump mounting nuts: 48 inch lbs. (6 Nm)
     
    Fuel tank strap bolts: 28 ft. lbs. (38 Nm)
     
    Fuel tank drain bolt: 36 ft. lbs. (49-50 Nm)

2004-06 TL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Properly relieve the fuel pressure.
  4.  
  5. Remove the fuel fill cap.
  6.  
  7. Remove the trunk floor.
  8.  
  9. Remove the access panel from the floor.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect fuel pump 5P connector.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the quick-connect fitting from the fuel tank unit.
  14.  
  15. Using Fuel sender wrench 07AAA-S0XA100, loosen the locknut.
  16.  
  17. Remove the locknut and the fuel tank unit.
  18.  
  19. Remove the fuel filter, the fuel gauge sending unit, the case, the wire harness, and the fuel pressure regulator.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal, use a new base gasket, new O-rings, and a new locknut
    NOTE
    After installation, make sure the base gasket is not pinched.

CL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Spare tire lid
     
    Floor access panel
     
    Pump electrical connectors
     
    Quick connect fittings
     
    Bolts and the pump

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  

Integra Models, RL And RSX Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  6.  
  7. Remove the rear seat to gain access to the fuel pump access panel.
  8.  
  9. Remove the maintenance access cover.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel pump.
  12.  
  13. If equipped with quick-connect fittings, hold the fuel line connector with one hand and press down the retainer tabs with the other hand, and then pull the connector off. Check the contact area of the pipe for dirt or damage, clean or replace the pipe or pump as required. Remove the old retainer from the pipe and discard. Cover the connector and pipe with plastic bags to prevent damage and keep foreign material out.

  15. Remove the fuel pump mounting nuts, then remove the fuel pump from the fuel tank.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten the fuel pump mounting nuts to 53 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
  2.  

NSX Models
3.0L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Lower the fuel tank and detach the electrical connector and fuel lines from the pump assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the nuts and the fuel pump from the tank.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten the fuel pump mounting nuts to 53 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
  2.  

3.2L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Left rear wheel
     
    Tank drain bolt and drain the fuel into an approved container
     
    Pump and float wiring connectors located under the trunk floor
     
    Fuel hose and pipe covers from the inside of the quarter panel

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Properly relieve the fuel pressure.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable, if not already done
     
    Fuel fill cap
     
    Trunk floor
     
    Access panel from the floor
     
    Fuel pump connector
     
    Quick-connect fitting from the fuel tank unit
     
    Fuel pump/sender assembly locknut using tool 07XAA-001010A
     
    Locknut and fuel pump/sender assembly
     
    Fuel filter, fuel gauge sending unit, case, wire harness and fuel pressure regulator

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure, noting the following points:
    1. When connecting the wire harness, make sure the connection is secure and the connectors are firmly locked into place. Do not bend or twist the fuel gauge sending unit more than necessary.
    2.  
    3. Install the pump assembly components in the reverse order of removal, with a new base gasket and new O-rings. Tighten the fuel pump/sender locknut to 69 ft. lbs. (93 Nm) with special tool 07XAA-001010A.
    4.  
    5. When installing the fuel tank unit, align the marks on the unit and the fuel tank.

1.8L And 2.0L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  6.  
  7. Remove the rear seat to gain access to the fuel pump access panel.
  8.  
  9. Remove the maintenance access cover.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel pump.
  12.  
  13. If equipped with quick-connect fittings, hold the fuel line connector with one hand and press down the retainer tabs with the other hand, and then pull the connector off.   3. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Lower the fuel tank and detach the electrical connector and fuel lines from the pump assembly.

  7. Remove the nuts and the fuel pump from the tank.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten the fuel pump mounting nuts to 53 inch lbs. (6 Nm).

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten the fuel pump mounting nuts to 53 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
